China has been taken into confidence over Saudi Arabia joining the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project as a strategic partner, Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry said on Friday.

The minister was responding to a tweet by former interior and planning minister, Ahsan Iqbal of PML-N, who asked whether Beijing had been taken on board before formally inviting Riyadh to join the mega venture.

"Has China been taken into confidence? CPEC is a bilateral project in which induction of any other country has to have [the] concurrence of both sides," Iqbal wrote.

In response, Chaudhry said Chinese assent had been sought and that the "expansion of CPEC is in China and Pakistan['s] interest"

"Pakistan will be a centre of economic activity of this region, era of darkness is over," he added.

The minister had announced on Thursday that Saudi Arabia is set to become a third strategic partner in CPEC and has reportedly agreed in principle to invest heavily in Pakistan after it was formally invited to join the project, Dawnreported.

The landmark announcement by Chaudhry came in the backdrop of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates apparently aimed at convincing Islamabad’s allies in the Middle East to help the government deal with a looming financial crisis.

“A high-level coordination committee has been constituted and it has the complete backing of the Saudi King, His Highness Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, as well as the Crown Prince [Mohammad bin Salman] and PM Khan,” said the minister, who was part of the prime minister’s entourage during the trip, at a press conference in Islamabad.

A high-level Saudi delegation comprising ministers for finance and energy as well as business heads would visit Pakistan in the first week of October to work out details of a grand economic partnership, Chaudhry said, adding that major investments from Saudi Arabia were expected.

He said Saudi Arabia was the first major country to have been formally invited to become a partner in the CPEC. “Our strategic cooperation has been revitalised. We have assured the Saudi leadership that we will continue to provide security to their country and provide strategic support wherever needed,” he added.

Excellent move, if true.

Very good time to transform CPEC into a global hub of investment for Pakistan.

With tensions between US and China on the rise in current times, it was a 'need of the hour' to revisit CPEC and open its door to additional countries in order to make sure that it stay afloat and move towards transparency in the process.

Of-course, that idiot Ahsan Iqbal could not see the bigger picture.

Saudis are helping Pakistan rather than getting assets. CPEC is not profitable entity for anyone to be excited

Very good. This is some of the best news in a long while.
Arkadash-im!!! Please get used to coming across them at a much higher frequency!!!! As for the other side, it'll be the opposite....

Where does that put the indians and their propaganda machine?
Their redemption lies in your destruction!!! Every positive development at your side is inherently a negative one from their perspectives!!!! Therefore, they are being progressively driven deeper into the higher strata of Hindutva!!! And, that's the ultimate offshoot of all the positive Pak drives...

Not going to believe pak media, pak have begged many countries to join CPEC in past too. Will wait for confirmation from KSA. As for $10bn deal, it a way to avoid IMF bailout same like dam funds. No details have been shared on how this deal is linked with CPEC or China.

Pakistan has always been funded by GCC countries, now and in the past. There is no surprise. CPEC is just an excuse. Real intention is to give aid to Pakistan and it is being given in the guise of investment in CPEC. There is nothing special here

Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal and Madagascar will not agree with CPEC. Maldives and Malaysia may agree. Nigeria and Somalia have nothing to give or invest!! Only muslim countries will agree for CPEC. Pakistan is isolated from all non-muslim countries.

I need that propaganda, I used to love reading it and chuckle. Don't deny us that laugh please.

I hope Moohdhi ji goes to Saudi to convince them against it. :yes4:

pichly dafa to pare pakrey thy, ab kya pakrey ga

Chinese are 1.3 billion.
Europe will or Russia may.
Chinese are getting pipelines which will save them about 17000km of travel (2way) for getting their petroleum. That is substituted by pipeline which requires only pumping of petroleum but does not need expensive shipping.

So, Chinese investment in CPEC is for their advantage, not for Pakistan.

Others don't have any need of CPEC. KSA also did not need it but agreed due to friendshio with pakistan. It is rumoured that KSA funded nuke development of pakistan too in the past as friendship.

As I said, all non-muslim countries are distancing from pakistan. Nepal, Myanmar, Lanka etc will not join CPEC
