State arms exporter Rosoboronexport has signed a framework agreement
with China on the joint development and construction of four non-nuclear
Amur-1650 conventional submarines for the Chinese Navy, a news report
said Thursday.

The final contract is tentatively worth $2 billion and is expected to be signed
by the parties no earlier than 2015, Kommersant reported.

The agreement stipulates for two of the submarines to be built in Russia and
two in China, with special provisions in place in the contract to ensure that no
intellectual property is copied from the Russian side, a source close to
Rosoboronexport told the business daily.

An additional agreement for the first stage of work could be signed by the end
of the year, he said, adding that a Russian contractor had not yet been selected
for construction of the submarines.

China may become the first buyer of the Amur-1650 submarines, beating out
India and Venezuela, both of which previously expressed interest, Kommersant
said.

Another source close to the arms exporter said the submarine contract "is very
important for Russia and tops the presidential list of projects with China."

Chinese military hardware is average, only sufficient for smaller countries. Chinese ambition is much bigger and required world class weapons, and hence going for Amur class. China also bought Kilo class submarines from Russia.

So Amur > Kilo > Chinese subs

For top hardware, China imports, for keeping up numbers, China builds.

China Getting Su 35 ( Just 40 that too 4th Gen ) when they Have 2 Fifth Gen Fighters.... Why ?
They Get RD 93s and AL 31 from Russia.... What about WS 10s ?

China sells substandard weapons to its followers/clients while itself buys better weapons from Russia.

Import of su 35 for wat? engines for their 5th gen fighter
Import of su-33 for wat? j-15 naval fighter

and you can find multiple cases before ...

Chinese still have to challenge russia is military hardware and they are atleast decade away from it.

just russian media farting as usual. kommersant is also saying china is buying their su-35s, tu-22s, tu-160, s-400.. varyage is useless, because russia refuse to sell arrester gears and so on..

Well , Rosoboronexport is destroying its credibility by issuing these false reports every now and then about China buying Su35's , AL31's , Arrestor Cables and now the Amur submarines ... Why are these reports never confirmed by the PLA ? ... No country in the world can keep such big military purchases a secret ... It so appears that they are more desperate to sell than the Chinese are eager to show even interest in them

it's a marketing ploy.. the russian navy rejected the amur, prefer to upgrade the kilo instead. this so called state of the art sub project is dying. the sub maker is desperate..
