China signals it will continue to block India from NSG
TNN | Updated: Jan 31, 2019

BEIJING: China signalled on Wednesday that it would continue to block India’s entry into the Nuclear Suppliers Group despite the special rapport struck between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the past three meetings starting with the Wuhan talks in April last year.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said there should be no double standards in the application of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty.

China feels that countries like India, which have not signed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), should not be admitted to the NSG.

India is not a signatory to the NPT but believes that it has the right to enter the NSG on the basis of its clean nonproliferation record.

“We believe we should conduct wide consultations and look for practical measures by opposing double standards in enforcing the treaty,” Geng said without directly mentioning India.

The statement comes at the start of a meeting in Beijing of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council to discuss issues related to nuclear disarmament. “We believe we should enhance its authority and effectiveness, universality and do a better job in preventing nuclear proliferation,” Geng said.

“We believe that the international community should stick to multilateralism and promote the three pillars, namely non-proliferation, disarmament and peaceful uses of nuclear energy,” he said.

AWWWWW pity on indians :coffee:

Why ? India ALREADY has NSG waiver. We are ALREDY enjoying the fruits of being an NSG member, WITHOUT being a part of it. !

btw, China is still missing from MTCR.

China's stance is India and Pakistan both in , or both out.

Dont worry, Till that time we will make sure China stand out of MTCR.

Who really needs that?

The MTCR is not a treaty and does not impose any legally binding obligations on Partners (members). Rather, it is an informal political understanding among states that seek to limit the proliferation of missiles and missile technology

Exactly , that's the point India too doesnt NEED , NSG ... apart fromfa 'status' for what It's already getting.

Indians thought begging China would allow them to sit at the big boy's table.

How/Why can You Beg for something your ALREADY have ?

Just for your general knowledge kid. China is one of market leader in missile technologies and she don't don't need MTCR

So you feel India Lags behind in Nuclear Technology ? is it ?
Does India really Need NSG when it has a Waiver ?

Thats the Whole Point. Neither India needs NSG nor China Needs MTCR. But Noth would like to join these groups for obvious reasons. India is ALREDY having a waiver so It can do EVERYTHING it can while being a FULL MEMBER.

Yes, India needs NSG because she need to access latest technologies which she not produces. Do India produce third gen reactors? Answer is NO. now world is move 4th gen. Waiver can be roll back any time but been a member mear you have permanent solution

Mate if you knew the Indians then you would know that they will now BEG EVEN MORE! Yes, they will roll over, and beg and cry like a little girl and frustrate the hell out of China.
That's the national trait of some others in the subcontinent, not India.

As for the begging part.
Pakistan's high commissioner to Australia, Abdul Malik Abdullah, says if Australia is willing to export uranium to India then it should sell it to Pakistan as well.

And then Aussies didn't give two hoots.

We don't have rose-colored glasses about the complexity or the difficulties of Pakistan.

Australia will sell uranium to India but not to Pakistan

India has a waver for accessing all the technology which comes under NSG. This was co sponsored by China.
Now them Chinese are batting for Pakistan in NSG (which is a joke) when they had the Chance to block India, they didn't do a thing to demand something similar for Pakistan which denied them almost all nuclear deals with the members(or couldn't because of the US gun on their heads). Waiver can be rolled back when all the members agree to it, read the laws. But, the probability of that will be slim, only when if India tests another nuke.:)

Then why India is fooling around and want full membership? Please elaborate?
