China should DEMAND return of all stolen treasures

I think that indeed the Romans were a force to be reckoned with, but they had their weaknesses. For example, a sustained arrow barrage from all sides (such as the Parthian tactic) would eventually reduce the Roman formation one by one.

Turtle formation and advance? Throw in a ballista with a pot of burning tar attached to the arrow for good measure! Has an incendiary effect when it hits. :P

Anyhow, i suppose you are refering to: Battle_of_Carrhae, didn't do them much good in the long run though.

Also, the Romans, as they were trained to fight together, had a weakness in single combat. So if an enemy formation could pound the legionary formation to nothing, then the Romans could be quickly overpowered.

Quite doubt that. They were proffesional soldiers. Ten years of experience is a lot. You'll appreciate that later in life.

They also did not grasp the idea of cavalry for the legions. They had good axillary cavalry for the axillary cohorts, but for a long time the Roman legion had only 120 cavalry, most who were just used as scouts. this proved to be a big mistake sometimes.

This is a good point indeed, one possibility is they did not need a good cavalry. They fought in infantry formations covered by "artillery" and archers. Iirc each infantryman also had a light javelin or two to throw before they charged.
Later, in the time of the eastern kingdom they took the armored horse concept from the Sassanids iirc.

So yes, the Romans were good, but they were not the best of the best, meaning they had their weaknesses.

Everyone has weaknesses....i wasn't debating who is best, just laying out some points.

Roman Legion favourite tactic is using a compacted form of Infantry or Phalanx column. They are best put to work on a grinding battle. The things about a grinding battle is, your flank will not be likely exposed as simply your column is VERY BIG......

You can try trowing javalin or missile into a compacted region, but their infantry will eat up your infantry before you can say what the......

This is quite redundant, can you name any army in the history can win 1 single -> multi-polar fight?

Every army in the world, even today cannot fight when they are alone. And your statement worked on "IF" the Roman lose their formation, which in itself is a big arse question.

They also did not grasp the idea of cavalry for the legions. They had good axillary cavalry for the axillary cohorts, but for a long time the Roman legion had only 120 cavalry, most who were just used as scouts. this proved to be a big mistake sometimes.

Again cavalry battle is not that big popularity on that period of time, compare to the later Persian heavy armoured cavalry. Roman tactics are using their main formation to eat up the enemy formation and fighting in a set piece. Cavalry for them is not of anything important. You cannot use cavalry to work a frontal assault anyway. They are just for clashing on the flank, but in case of a grinding battle, cavalry are rendered useless.

So yes, the Romans were good, but they were not the best of the best, meaning they had their weaknesses.

The old saying is, if they are that good, they won't go extinct....
Even at their prime, the Roman lost 3 legion to a Barbaric German.

There are always people smarter than you, and that applies to everyone, Roman included

Wow china sure demands a lot next time they will demand to make everything china oh wait they already started. :omghaha:

but in serious note i believe that national treasures should be returned to the country of origin but sure it must come by like everything else is to respect and understand which china needs to show and do on its foreign policies well that the serious bit so am going back to the punts well china does not know any of this anyway :omghaha:

Obviously, if something was "stolen", then China needs to "steal" it back!! Your commandos should
mount missions against all of the museums that have your stolen stuff on display. If China's special forces are good, they would have no problem "recovering" China's stolen treasures from the wimpy Euroes ......

The most desirable virtue of real Americans is straightforwardness. Not like those hypocritical British.

Guys, there is a reason why Italy's most famous and valuable painting is hanging in a French museum in Paris... ;)
