Chinas Strategic Reconnaissance UAV has been found!!
October.10 (China Defense Mashup Reporting by Johnathan Weng) One image recently appeared on Chinese cyberspace provide a convincing result that China has developed some strategic reconnaissance UAVs to accomplish the similar missions like RQ-4 in areas near China Mainland.
In this surprising image, one large UAV and half wing of another one can be seen. And the aircraft hangars are obviously built for large UAVs. We can find No.3, No.4 and No.5 hangars in the picture and this UAV fleet at least incorporates 6-10 aircrafts.
This large UAV has a 18-20 meter (60-66ft) wing span (according to the height of standing peoples) with a horizontal stabilizer linking canted outward twin tails. Unlike the turbofan engine of RQ-4, Chinese peoples Strategic Reconnaissance UAV is propelled by Turboprop Engine.
The background of the image displays that the location of this UAV base is in somewhere mountain area of north China.
On the just ended grand military parade of the 60th National day of New China, PLA has firstly demonstrated a group of vehicles mounting with UAVs. Basing the size of these drones, they are probably used in artillery firedirecting or battlefield tactic reconnaissance. One the other hand, according to Chinese resources, the service people in this group are from the Strategic Long-range UAV Reconnaissance Commanding Station under General Staff Department of PLA, which is a secret and burgeoning facility in PLA system.
In some interviews on officers from this UAV group, they reveal that long-range strategic UAVs can not participate in the parade formation for their super-width.
On Oct.23 2008, Washington Times once reported that an internal Chinese government document says China is working to develop an advanced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as part of a strategy to combine civilian and military technology in weapons and nonmilitary equipment. The state-run company in charge of the program is a major Chinese weapons manufacturer, the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. (CASIC).
It is apparent that there are several Long-endurance UAV projects is being tested or evaluated by Chinese military departments
