New Delhi: China in a startling move plans to use the population of Bangladesh as 'guinea pigs' to conduct Phase III trials of its Covid vaccine.

Well known Chinese firms Sinopharm and National Biotec are eyeing this possibility of human trials to be conducted on 40,000 persons with the help of Communist Party of China, ET has reliably learnt.

"The Chinese government may run the second phase human trial of a possible coronavirus vaccine in Bangladesh," he said during a virtual conference with members of Bangladesh Health Reporters Forum last month.

ET has gathered that China is taking advantage of Covid to exploit developing and least developed countries across sectors from pharma to trade.
State-run Sinopharm has completed construction of a plant in Wuhan for mass production of a coronavirus vaccine candidate now under development. Eighteen potential vaccines were in clinical trials globally, with seven being developed by Chinese companies, according to the World Health Organization.

It's not advertised but it's known in some circles that big pharma companies have been using the developing world as ginnie pigs - ( after drugs that went through initial testing of course).

I think it was in april or may that a French Dr researcher went tv to say that Africa should be used as a testing post for covid - 19.

If this is the case I am a little apprehensive about bd being the ginnie pig for covid -19.

I think it was in april or may that a French Dr researcher went tv to say that Africa should be used as a testing post for covid - 19.

If this is the case I am a little apprehensive about bd being the ginnie pig for covid -19.

The biggest cost for drug development for big pharma's is not the money spent on researchers, but on drug trials.

I'm not naive nor am I illiterate, I can see what image the Indian print and media are trying to portray with this article.


It's all about word play for these people, a proper article header would be 'China plans to conduct Phase so and so trials in Bangladesh' instead of a blatantly mala fide title like this one 'China Plans to USE Bangladeshi population'.


There is a big difference here, this article with that title is meant to undermine Bangladesh and take a shot at china at the same time.



I mean seriously 'use Bangladeshi population', what a pathetic piece of journalism, do they think we can't pick up on the subliminal messages veiled beneath careful word play ?

I really get your point and admit that the phrasing of the article should be more appropriate. The current wordings sound too condescending of both China and BD and you getting hyped up over it is completely understandable.

But I think China should really use the vaccine on their own population first.

I'm afraid I may sound like an idiot and I am on relation to this subject but from my understanding people of different regions have different DNA, slightly different immune system that are adapted to their region and climate, this why the vaccine should be checked for compatibility with people of all types.

I too don't have the capacity to correct you over here as I had zero interest in medical and I absolutely abhor dissecting dead cockroaches. That's kind of a starter thing when you take Bio in colleges and I'm sure even if I would have got passed some of the theoretical stuff, I would've flunked during the practicals.

Simply because there are not enough covid 19 cases in China to test the vaccines.

Example:
Brazil's largest city of Sao Paulo taking part in mass human trials for the experimental coronavirus vaccine developed by researchers at the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca Plc (AZN.L).

Developers and researchers are looking to places like Brazil, where the new coronavirus is still spreading fast, to test potential vaccines.

China has already used and is still using its volunteer population to find out the effects of vaccines and cure. Every country and every population must contribute to find out remedy against the Pandemic. Bd should not wait in the side, other countries develop medicines and BD asks them for free. No, BD must take certain responsibilities as well.

Indians should not talk negative about China's efforts.
