China overtakes US as Israel’s largest source of imports

January 25, 2022 by JNS

China became Israel’s largest source of imports in 2021 with $10.7 billion, overcoming the previous top spot held by the United States, revealed Israel’s National Bureau of Statistics on Thursday.

In 2020, imports from the United States had totalled a little more than $8 billion, while China’s imports totalled nearly $7.7 billion.

Imports from the United States in 2021 were nearly $8.3 billion.

Following the United States was Switzerland with nearly $6.6 billion and Germany following close behind.

However, the United States retained its spot as the top destination for Israeli exports in 2021 with $16.2 billion.

In September, Israel opened a Chinese-operated shipping port in Haifa to increase competition and the country’s status as a trading nexus.

During a visit in August, CIA director Bill Burns reportedly told Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett that the United States is concerned about Chinese investments, especially in the high-tech sector and infrastructure projects.

If you impoverish yourself, you buy Chinese cheap things instead American quality things.

Nowadays, the most valued American brands, i.e. Tesla and iPhone, are made in China, with Chinese technologies, Chinese components, Chinese brains, Chinese manpower, Chinese R&D and Chinese quality. The only thing American in them are perhaps the location of the company headquarters and probably some software. And even the software may be outsourced to China too.

Give me one American brand which is a quality one but made in the US with US techs and US components: cars, TV, washing machines, fridges, bikes, bicycles, trains... All suck, not unlike the Soviet made things: some can be durable but too material consuming, too electricity consuming, too petrol consuming, too expensive (relative to their quality). I do not deny there are some very quality US products, especially in the fields of industrial machinery and equipment, but mainly because they have no competitors (just yet), thank to US big political and economic cloud, while China has just started and/or have no experience in the field.

Design and detailed engineering works need math and logic thinking. How can you expect lower-IQ, poorer math educated US engineers to design better products than the Chinese. Not to mention the quality of US workforce compared to Chinese.

Iphone? Macbook? sold worldwide
One can live very comfortably with only made in China products, but try to live a life with only made in US products, actually I doubt any one can make it through a week.

chips/pcb defused in taiwan, assembled in china.
notice how they only say "designed in california".
That's because of lower labor and manufacturing costs in China, iPhone would have been 2000$ if it was built in house
