Chinese Navy Fleets Leave for China-Malaysia Military Drill

A first-of-its-kind naval drill involving Chinese and Malaysian forces is set to get underway later on this week.

Chinese naval vessels are set to take part in a series of anti-piracy drills in the Malacca Strait.

Military observer Yin Zhuo says the location of the drills makes sense.

"The Malacca Strait has long been plagued by pirates. In 2014, 50-percent of the world's pirate attacks happened around the Malacca Strait. And in most cases, the attackers are savage. They'll kill, rape and rob without a thought. This is why I think the international community should be coming together to deal with these people."

The Chinese navy is sailing a missile destroyer, a frigate, a hospital ship, as well as four transport planes and three helicopters to the drills, which are set to begin on Thursday.

Chinese navy fleets on Saturday left a port in Sanya in south China's Hainan Province for a military exercise jointly held by China and Malaysia.

The drill, coded "Peace and Friendship 2015," is scheduled to be held from September 17 to 22 in the Malacca Strait and surrounding waters.

It will include exercises for joint escort, joint search and rescue, hijacked vessel rescue, weapons use, humanitarian rescue and disaster relief.

It will be the first joint drill between the two armed forces and the largest bilateral military exercise between China and a country from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

A joint command post will be set up by the two sides to coordinate air, land and sea forces.

Armaments to be displayed by China will include a missile destroyer, a missile frigate, a hospital ship, four transportation planes and three helicopters.

"The military drill aims to deepen the China-Malaysia all-round strategic partnership, enhance bilateral military exchanges, improve ability to address security threats and jointly safeguard regional maritime security," said Hu Weihua, who commands the Chinese navy fleets.

It does not target a third party and is not related to the regional situation, Hu said.

They are afraid Malay lose control of this country. Unlike the Chinese, Malays are very dependent on government contracts, handouts, government jobs and education quota. They fear Malays would become Red Indians of the United States or the Malays of Singapore. Apparently many inside UMNO againts Najib, fears for their position. Patronage is still the fundamental criteria for advancement within UMNO. Mahathir dares to speak up cause he got nothing to lose. Muhyahiddin, deputy prime minister already lost his position, who else dares?
