China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) announced on Saturday that it is working to make reflection panels for the world's top radio telescope.

The company hoped to complete the first of 4,450 such panels in May, which are designed to be fixed on the telescope that has a diameter of 500 meters.

The telescope, under construction in China, is designed to be the world's largest and most sensitive radio telescope by completion.

Zheng Yuanpeng, a CETC engineer in charge of panel making, said the telescope will be twice as sensitive as the Arecibo Observatory operated by the United States.

The China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC), one of China's leading military electronics groups, has secured credit worth CNY35 billion (USD5.6 billion) to support international sales activities, Beijing announced on 5 February.

A statement by China's State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense (SASTIND) - the government agency that leads defence industrial policy - said that the funds would be made available to CETC through a "strategic co-operation agreement" signed earlier this month with the Export-Import Bank of China.

SASTIND said the funds would enable CETC to support export opportunities by offering its customers access to export credit, preferential loans and other financial mechanisms.
 
Chinese news reported that the cable net structure for the telescope was completed on 2 Feb 2015. Next step would be the reflecting surface assembly.

The whole telescope is scheduled to be completed in September 2016.
