China keen to treble its investment in road sector: Nath
China is keen on investing in the road sector and treble its outlay in India, according to Minister for Road Transport and Highways Kamal Nath.
Mr. Nath, who visited China recently, said the two countries would sign an MoU that would pave the way for greater infusion of money and technology. India has also sought cooperation in project management, design and engineering from China.
He said the agreement was in the draft stage and once inked would triple the Chinese investment in the country. Currently, nine Chinese companies were executing six projects, entailing an expenditure of Rs. 2,478.32 crore. Four of them were on the Hyderabad-Bangalore highway stretch, and one each in Kerala and Gujarat.
Mr. Nath said during a discussion he had with his Chinese counterpart Li Shenglin in Beijing, he impressed upon him the opportunities that India offered in the road sector.
