Non, mon cher compatriote, je suis anglais et fier de l'être.:)

Anyway, as the article says:

"The English are Europeans after all, we have the same values," said Vice-Admiral Hubert Jouot, in charge of decommissioning French vessels.

Donc je crois que l'admiral Hubert a raison, nous sommes tous européens et fier de l'être. VIVE L'EUROPE ET L'EURO(ET LA LIVRE STERLING.lol).

this Report is not correct , the second largest country in the world by
land area is Canada @ 3,854,085 sq miles !

yes Iran is 636,372 sq mi

Saudi Arabia is 830,000 sq miles

its larger then Iran by almost 200,000 sq mi or 193,628 sq miles to be precise

Libya is @ 679,359 sq miles is slightly larger or 42,987 sq miles larger to be precise
Actually the report is correct as only the land area is included in the comparison. Canada is only the second largest in total area where it has 9,984,670 sq km, however it only has 9,093,507 sq km in land area which is behind China's 9,326,410 and 9,161,966 of US, let alone Russia's 16,377,742.

With US being a so-called superpower, number 4 surely sucks.
What really sucks is that while the US and China are comparable in geographical size, the US have 4 times arable land than China, as in over 40% of continental US is farming capable while only slightly over 11% of mainland China is farming capable.

Agriculture: A Comparison Between U.S. and China | Evelyn Browning Garriss | FINANCIAL SENSE
Basically, the US and China are two nations of a similar size (China 3.69 million square miles vs. US 3.68 million square miles) positioned along similar latitudes. Their lands include similar agricultural zones. Indeed, some growing regions are “twins” with similar weather and growing conditions. For example, North Texas and Yunnan province are “twins”, with ample rain and good monsoons during El Niños and drought stricken during La Niñas.

Of course, the parallels have limitations. Approximately 40% of US land is arable while only 11% of China can be farmed. So even relatively small weather changes affect a greater proportion of Chinese crop productivity. China’s farmland is in its densely settled eastern provinces while the majority of US farmland is in the relatively under-populated central regions. Still, it gives an insight to see the agricultural parallels of the two nations.
But it sucks even more for China...

More than 40% of China's arable land degraded: report - China - Chinadaily.com.cn
More than 40% of China's arable land is suffering from degradation, seriously reducing the country's capacity to produce food for the world's biggest population, Xinhua reported Tuesday.
Four times less arable land than the US with 4 times the population to feed.

If China gets back Mongolia (Outer Manchuria) and Outer Manchuria (currently under Russia's control), will she be in first place?
No. Russia will still be first. Russia is massive. Russia is 70% larger than China.

In total area also China is larger than USA.CIA Factbook give US total area 9,826,675 sq. km which includes 12 nautical mile of coastal sea area on the entire US coastline, which it doesn't do for any other country. For this reason alone US is shown 300,000 sq. km larger. On the other hand CIA not only exclude Chinese 12 nautical miles coastal sea area but also exclude Chinese administrated Aksai Chin and give a figure of 9,596,961 sq. km.If we include great lake area and inland water body but exclude 'for only America' coastal 12 nautical miles then the area of USA is 9,526,468 sq. km and for China with Aksai Chin is 9,640821 sq. km.I think Chinese respective authority should challenge CIA for dishonest manipulation of data.

The following two primary sources (non-mirrored) represent the range (min./max.) of total area for China and the United States. Both sources exclude Taiwan from the area of China.
  1. The Encyclopædia Britannica lists China as world's third-largest country (after Russia and Canada) with a total area of 9,572,900 sq km,[4] and the U.S. as fourth-largest at 9,526,468 sq km. The figure for the U.S. is less than in the CIA Factbook because it excludes Coastal and Territorial waters.[5]
  2. The CIA World Factbook lists the United States as the third-largest country (after Russia and Canada) with total area of 9,826,675 sq km,[6] and China as fourth-largest at 9,596,961 sq km.[7] This figure for the U.S. is greater than in the Encyclopædia Britannica because it includes Coastal and Territorial waters.
Disputed Ranking Explanation: The dispute for world's third-largest country arose from the inclusion of Coastal and Territorial waters for United States. This discrepancy was deduced from comparing the CIA World Factbook and its previous iterations[8] against the information for United States on Encyclopaedia Britannica, particularly its footnote section.[5] In sum, according to older versions of the CIA World Factbook (from 1982 to 1996), the US was listed as the world's fourth-largest country (after Russia, Canada, and China) with a total area of 9,372,610 sq km. However, in the 1997 edition, the US added Coastal waters to its total area (increasing it to 9,629,091 sq km). And then again in 2007, US added Territorial water to its total area (increasing it to 9,826,630 sq km). During this time, China's total area remained unchanged. In other words, no Coastal or Territorial water space was added to China's total area figure. The United States has a Coastal water area of 109,362 sq km, and a Territorial water area of 195,213 sq km, for a total of 304,575 sq km of additional water space. This is larger than entire countries like Italy, New Zealand, and United Kingdom. Adding this figure to the US will boost it over China in ranking since China's Coastal and Territorial water figures are currently unknown (no official publication) and thus cannot be added into China's total area figure.

  • United Nations Statistics Division's figure for United States is 9,629,091 sq km.
