What's new

China has world's largest high-speed rail network

I support your views. The tracks in India needs to be upgraded to an average speed of at least 100kmph.

Some of lines support upto 200 kms eg. Konkan Railway but some lines which are newly built and upgraded supports 160+ kms. Older single lanes are varies from 100 to 60 kms per hr. It has standard procedure now to upgrade all the lines to 160+ kms p.h with new concrete sleepers.

Simultaneously from current railway budget is has be informed that speed of passenger trains will be increased to 40 to 50 kms p.h & express to 80 from 60 kms p.h that will make lot of difference also.

Once Spanish firm Talgo trail run completes i think railway will have new instruction for upgrading existing and building new railway lines.

Rail link between Kunming and Kolkata under Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar (BCIM) multi-model corridor project is a good proposal. let see how the present Govt see this.:-)

Since Mumbai - Kolkata railway corridor is under consideration i will bet that can be another route for China connecting to Arabian Sea or Gulf countries.:-)

Yes, trains in India should be able to run around 160kmph to achieve the average of 100kmph or its a joke since cars these days have better speed performance.
What are your thoughts about the rail link from kolkata to kunming?

. .
Is that a trick question?
What can be a trick in this question? The railway system in Bharat is very large and advanced.

I think tracks in Bharat are good enough for the speed of 160 kmph. However, for bullet trains tracks need to be good enough for 400 to 500 kmph I thinik.

The railway system of the ex-USSR was also very large and advanced. They had a track for fast moving train from Samarkand to Moscow.

Trains in India are more affordable compared to Cars just for comparison if we travel from Shimoga to Bangalore (276 kms) with family of 4 and through express train this will cost me Rs. 900/- but a car will cost me Rs. 2000/+. So if India goes for bullet which looks not possible as financial breakeven won't work at given train pricing. Ok, if the bullet train runs from Mumbai to Bangalore with stop at Shimoga may workout cheaper. i.e., longer the distance cost effective from Indian prospective.

I don't think in Rural areas of India you can drive car @ more than 80+ avg considering the road condition & traffic.

What I think about Kolkata to Kunming? - linking different nation through rail & road is good but before that considering financial viability is important, it’s not that you built a train and if nobody travels then ? It’s ok if goods movements compensate that. I think you might understand my point.

I believe India & China has important role to play in the present modern world. Considering population, economy and enormous growth opportunity which both countries offer to each other but we have to overcome trust deficit, otherwise it’s as usual business you are my enemy and I am yours.

Bullet train (HSR 300 kph) fare prices:
2nd class: RMB 0.45 per km
1st class: RMB 0.73 per km
Commercial class: RMB 1.42 per km

at that price Indians can fly from Shimoga to Bangalore for eg. Mumbai to Bangalore has a distance of 980 kms and Airlines will charge around Rs. 5000 same will be bullet trains cost for 2nd class.

Bharat has large railway system but not advanced as Western or Chinese or Japanese railways but yes compared to south Asia we are the most advanced.:-)

Bharat needs trains to cater its population needs and for races:-). distance between large cities in China is suitable for long distance bullet trains:-). but in India, scenario is totally different since for every 100 to 200 kms a township populated around 2-5 lakh people is in place:(. so it is better to run high speed trains instead of Bullet train and economics also works in favour of high speed trains:-). IR is upgrading railway lines to capable of handling train speed upto 160+:-). I think it is more than enough for us:-).

400 to 500 kmph :o:

If we built railway line from Mumbai - Kolkata - Kunming with bullet train then it might be financial viable as it may work as alternate silk road for china:-). they should have invested on it

That's exactly what I was saying earlier in another thread, the numbers don't add up. Not mention Shinkansen could be more expensive than China's CRH380.

You simply can't compare the HSR network of other countries to China's massive networks. I'm hoping that one day, rail network in my country will be upgraded too. :D

India might go maximum of 4-6 special bullet corridor not more than that. India knows that Bullet trains are just a show piece for her not a necessity.

Kunming, Kolkata establishes sister city relationship - Kunming - Kunming
Kunming, Kolkata establishes sister city relationship

Do you know Kunming?
Kunming is the biggest gateway(to South Eastern and South Asia) city in China. It is planned to be very open to South Eastern and South Asian countries, such as India,Vietnam,Thailand,Laos..
And,though it isn't so rich,it's beautiful.
With the railway,Indian can travel in Yunnan province.
Kunming
Dali
The Old Town of Lijiang
Erhai
Shangri-La
Sipsongpanna
Lugu Lake

They are very good places for visiting.

India is close to China and economy is rising,China can take advantage of this :D
Building railway is reasonable.

He also travelled in Taiwan during weekend. And buy buy buy, haha.

Welcome to SE China' Taiwan! Your dad should also have taken a look at the now belated Taipei-Taoyuan Airport MRT. It has taken for ages and they are still running tests.
