"Building more high-speed railways" has been a hot topic at the annual sessions of China's provincial legislatures and political advisory bodies intensively held in January.

China has the world's largest high-speed rail network, with the total operating length reaching 19,000 km by the end of 2015, about 60 percent of the world's total.

The expanding high-speed rail network is offering unprecedented convenience and comfort to travelers, and boosting local development as well.

Chinese companies have developed world-leading capabilities in building high-speed railways in extreme natural conditions.

High-speed railway routes across China have been designed to suit its varying climate and geographical conditions.

The Harbin-Dalian high-speed railway travels through areas where the temperature drops to as low as -40 C in winter, the Lanzhou-Xinjiang railway passes through the savage Gobi Desert and the Hainan Island railway can withstand a battering from typhoons.

The China Railway Corp plans to spend another 800 billion yuan (around $120 billion) in 2016, especially in less-developed central and western regions. [Photo/Xinhua]

Bharat also has a very large railway network. I wonder if the Bharati railway system is also as advanced as this one.

Yes, we have very large railway network but not advanced as them. they are far ahead in this area.

They have done commendable progress in the field of railways. we are just starting to upgrade to high speed level. It will take another 10-15 years to us to reach their present level.

Thanks for replying to my question. Are there any bullet trains in Bharat? If there are, then how long are the stretched ?

I think both Bharat and Pakistan need to bring major changes in their railway systems. In Bharat, they made a lot of additions in the system left by the British but some modernization is required.

As of now no Bullet Trains in Bharat.

I am not a supporter of Bullet Train, because as for as i know we doesn't need that in other words we are happy with present rail system, common man of Bharat not used to such expensive transport systems.

It has been consideration for some of the lines to be upgraded to high speed railway lines especially lines connecting Tire 1 cities like state capitals and major industrial & commercial hubs and ports.

Some line like Mumbai-Ahmedabad & Mumbai-Delhi & Mumbai-Chennai & Mumbai-Kolkatta lines are under consideration for Bullet Train with soft loans from Japan, US, EU & China.

This thread is about China, but I will still answer you.

Construction on Mumbai-Ahmedabad 505 km HSR link will begin from 2017 and will be operational by 2023/2024.Japan is providing soft loans as well as TOT.

Nice pics! Yes the scale is satisfactory, now reaching 19000 km, far larger than rest-of-the-world combined. This largely alleviate burden on ordinary railway which can support higher freight volumes.

Speed of implementation is also good given HSR was introduced only less than a decade ago, over 3300 km was commissioned just last year alone. Manufacturing & constructions are ongoing, total network should exceed 30000 km by 2020.

Yes, progress on techs are also satisfactory. Train techs are well capable to suit a wide range of climatic zones or extreme weathers, civil engineering techs can handle geographies of difficult terrains.

Top operating speed of existing network will be increased from 300 kph to 350 kph sometime this year.

I support your views. The tracks in India needs to be upgraded to an average speed of at least 100kmph.
