The National Exhibition of Technology Achievements during the 12th Five Year Plan (FYP) is held in Beijing these days. I therefore spent two complete days there to visit the excellent exhibition. I took lots of pictures, and want to share some of them with the friends here.

Translation to the Chinese shown by the following three pictures: we hope to build China's first engineering prototype of nuclear fusion reactor by 2050.

I actually talked with the staff of the EAST booth (a PhD that working at EAST), what does it mean by "engineering prototype of nuclear fusion reactor"? The answer I got is: it means a fusion reactor that is almost ready for commercial purpose!!

I'm not sure how you feel. But I'm really shocked by the schedule! It's my first time to hear a detailed timeline made for fusion reactor! The world will be completely changed when fusion reactor comes to reality!

IC (Integrated circuit) production involves different manufacturing equipment for different steps. China started the efforts to develop/produce own IC production machines from 2008. Steady progress has been made since that. The next picture highlights China's past achievement and future aspiration.

IC production line. Equipment circled by red lines means the equipment that has been localized in 11th FYP (2006 to 2010); green line means the localization made in 12th FYP (2011 to 2015); blue line means new localization that expected to be achieved in 13th FYP (2016 to 2020). Yes, there are still many white spots, which means the systems that still need to be imported. These will be our target in the 14th, or 15th FYP.

Next picture is the model of China's own TBM (tunnel boring machine). China is world's largest consumer of TBM, while it is also the largest producer of it. Previously, China was completely dependent on imports for TBM. And western companies therefore charged a huge amount of extra-profits on us. I talked with the engineers from the TBM booth. They told me that, the price of the TBM China imported in 1990s' is RMB 300~400 million per unit. But nowadays, our own TBM is only RMB 100 million a unit!!

Without the rapid localization of a wide range of construction equipment (excavators, wheeled-loaders, cranes, cement pump truck, dozers, graders, pavers, rollers, etc.), it is impossible for us to become the owner of world's largest expressway network, and high-speed train network in such a short period of time. The TBM localization is a good symbol of our efforts!

The next picture is about China's own 4G equipment.

I need to say a big "thank you" to the Chinese scientists that working for 4G technology. Without them, it is impossible for me to post this thread on PDF from a 300km/h train! I don't know how many countries nowadays can realize this?? :-)

China's mobile biology laboratory (Grade III). The entire system was sent to Africa to support the fights against Ebola.

Next picture is about Jilin-1 video satellite

To help you better understand what Jilin-1 can do, pls take a look at a short video from the link below. You can pay a special attention to the last 30second of the video.

I talked with the staff of the JL-1 booth. They told me TEN additional JL-1 alike satellites scheduled to be launched by mid-2017.

Description of GF-4 Satellite
A quick translation: GF-4 is a geostationary earth observation satellite that can achieve 50m resolution. Its range of view is about 7,000km x 7,000km, with individual scene covering an area of 400 km × 400 km (160,000 km2)
16.jpg

Ms. Zhao, the deputy chief engineer of GF-series satellites.
What's particularly interesting is, the average age of Zhao's team is only 35 years old. With more experience gained from the GF projects, I bet they could show more shocking achievements to us in the short future!

China has many capable women, one of which is the lady above.

Another one is leading the Tianhe2 supercomputer project .

Women hold up half the sky.

.
As long as they do not retire at 55 or 60!:p:

I have got confirmation that China has got the supercomputer in Wuxi benchmarked against LinPack. Peak performance 125Pflops.

A completely indigenous supercomputer. (Except for storage, and cooling systems)

It will be officially revealed in the coming ISC, and will be featured in the coming TOP 500.

Can you give me the 13th five year plan of China in english? Full text, I don't want somebody else's summary. Please, I will be highly obliged.

Next pictures are about Quantumn communication.

High speed near infrared single photon detector (the name itself almost reads as a science fiction novel !!)

the original Chinese text could be read from the given link. But I don't have the full English translation. Maybe you need to go to a professional translation service provider to seek for help.
