China Establishes Research Center Honoring Professor Atta-Ur-Rahman
Prof Atta is also the Editor-in-Chief of eight European Chemistry journals.

In honor of Professor Atta-ur-Rahman, HUCM (Hunan University of Chinese Medicine) has established the ‘’Academician Professor Atta-ur-Rahman One Belt and One Road TCM Research Center’’ at the main campus in Changsha, which is the capital of Hunan province in China.

Its inauguration will be held on 23rd to 25th October 2019. The event will take place in HUCM, with five the Annual Bio-TCM International Conference, as per a press release.

‘’This center is indeed a humble recognition of Professor Atta-ur-Rahman tremendous scientific contributions in the field of traditional medicine, and his leadership of developing scientific collaboration between the two countries’’- said Wei Wang, Furong Distinguished Professor at the Hunan University of Chinese Medicine.

‘’It is also a celebration of induction in the highest honor of fellowship of Chinese Academy of Sciences’’ – he continued.

HUCM is one of the biggest public sector universities in China. The university has been internationally recognized for its high standard education and research quality. The university hosts a lot of foreign students, with 500 scholars belonging to Pakistan.

The glorious 1142 publications:
Professor Atta-ur-Rahman did a PhD in organic chemistry from Cambridge University in 1968. He has 1142 publications in numerous organic chemistry fields. 775 out of 1142 are research publications, 43 international patents, 70 chapters in books and 254 books published by the major US and European presses.

Prof Atta is the Editor-in-Chief of eight European Chemistry journals. He is also the Editor of the world’s leading encyclopedic series on natural products. About 82 students have completed their Ph.D. under his supervision.

Prof Rahman is the first Muslim scientist to have won the UNESCO Science Prize in the 35-year-old history of the prize. He took home the award in 1999. In 2006, he was elected as Fellow of Royal Society in July. Professor Atta’s achievements are a long list.

To honor his endless services to the development of Science and Technology, University of Technology Mara, Malaysia UiTM, introduced an institution named ‘Atta-ur-Rahman Institute of Natural Product Discovery (RiND)’ in 2013. NUST (National University of Science and Technology) has also initiated an institute ‘Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences (ASAB)’ at their university in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad.
