China 'Developing Satellites to Guide Missiles'
englishnews@chosun.com / Jul. 13, 2012 13:28 KST
China has been reportedly developing satellites that would help it attack aircraft carriers with anti-ship ballistic missiles.

Shanghai's Eastday newspaper on Thursday cited a report from the Project 2049 Institute, a defense think tank in the U.S., saying China has been developing high-definition satellites, radar satellites, electronic-reconnaissance satellite and small satellites powered by solid fuel to track and target U.S. carrier strike groups in real time.

By using satellites operating in a low orbit, the Chinese military hopes to improve the precision strike ability of its middle and long-range ballistic missiles by accurately locating targets.

China has stationed so-called "carrier-killer" DF-21D ballistic missiles at military base. They can reportedly travel 3,000 km and are capable of attacking U.S. carriers in the west Pacific, Indian Ocean and South China Sea, though it not entirely clear whether their capacity lives up to initial reports.

One of China's weather satellites, which went into operation in 2008, already has some of these functions, according to the institute. The satellite has 12 all-weather sensors that can provide the exact location and signals of targets in addition to weather information. It is understood that China is also busy developing an early warning satellite for detection and counterattack of enemy ballistic missiles.

i'm not anti DF-21,but where are the proofs???ballistic missile is generally used against static target.that is the theory.Df-21 was tested against static ship.but it was never published that they were ever tested against moving targets or not.don't want to disrespect China, but western countries tried and failed to built one of these(when USA is much ahead on this kind of tech.so are Russia).until a video shows that it really can intercept a moving ship just like cruise missile,i would prefer to see it as another "Bogeyman" weapons to me.

Admiral Willard has already said China's DF-21D ASBM has achieved IOC (initial operating capability). Most people, except for some really dumb Indians, can infer that Admiral Willard has access to classified reports that he's not willing to share in detail.

China has carrier-killer missile, U.S. admiral says - Washington Times

"Adm. Robert F. Willard, commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, disclosed to a Japanese newspaper on Sunday that the new anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) is now in the early stages of deployment after having undergone extensive testing.

“An analogy using a Western term would be ‘initial operational capability (IOC),’ whereby I think China would perceive that it has an operational capability now, but they continue to develop it,” Adm. Willard told the Asahi Shimbun. 'I would gauge it as about the equivalent of a U.S. system that has achieved IOC.'”

i never meant that it didn't got IOC...but nobody, even your admiral is not sure about DF-21D that is it really first ASBM of its kind or just a "bogeyman" that is designed to make USA spend billions into this "False Threat"???Soviet Russia used to demonstrate a lot of missiles in march past'later it was found that those are just wooden models...though i don't think DF-21 an wooden model.

While their Internet hindu brigade will be planning a counter strategy like this:

hope you know this thing called "Ram Dao"...one strike can slice you into two..you should better watch out of this woman..i see you were within strike range..

China cannot be stopped...they have the brains, they have the money and most importantly they have the WILL.

India has brains, has the money but I doubt if we have the WILL to go for new generation weapon systems.

Also, India having only regional aspirations (against China which has global ambitions), India need not follow them blindly.
