China decides to impose a 25% punitive tariff on 106 items U.S. goods (worth US$50 billion in total)

The Tariff Commission of the State Council of the People's Republic of China decided to impose a 25% tariff on 14 categories of 106 products, such as soybeans, automobiles, and chemical products originating in the United States.

According to the report of China’s CCTV, the implementation date will be determined by the U.S. government’s implementation of tariff levied on Chinese products and will be announced separately.

Soybean is the main export product of the United States. Last year, the United States exported about 14 billion U.S. dollars of soybeans to China.

At the moment Americans have very little leverage. They have opened fronts on all sides (EU, Russia, China) and they will be "banged" from all sides as well.

US tariffs have resulted in retaliation from China already, will soon result from EU as well.

Even the tariffs imposed by US will result in a higher production cost for US Steel / Aluminium producers and they will have no choice but to pass this cost to internal US buyers. Therefore, in the end the US will have a double whammy - internal and external.
