WHAT HAPPENED: One day after winning the US Open boys' doubles title, Wu Yibing of China beat No. 1 seed Axel Geller in boys' singles on Sunday, 6-4, 6-4, to capture a clean sweep of the 2017 US Open junior titles.

As the first player from China to win any junior title at Flushing Meadows, the 17-year-old Wu said after Sunday's win, "I'd like to thank all the Chinese people here" in the Grandstand. "It's for China. It's for me. Xie Xie."

Geller, the 18-year-old from Argentina said, "He was better today and I congratulate him." Later on Sunday, Geller said he would be heading to Stanford University, where he will be a freshman. "I have orientation in one week, so I'm excited for what's coming," he said.

When the match began, it seemed like it would be a battle between two powerhitting baseliners, and if Geller could keep slamming 125 mph aces like he did to hold at 2-1 in the first set, the Argentine would prevail. At 3-all in the first set, Geller fired a 131mph ace on the penultimate point to pull ahead 4-3. But then, at 4-all Geller's serve turned sour. He double faulted away the ninth game and gave Wu a 5-4 lead. In the next game, Wu held serve and captured the set on his third set point.

In the second set, Geller lost control of his biggest weapon (faulting on 50 percent of his first serves) and allowed Wu to create 20 winners by cleverly mixing up his shots and pace. In effect, Wu became the creator and Geller became the retreiver. Wu quickly took a 4-0 lead. But just then, serves set in. Leading 5-2, Wu fauled to convert six match points. Geller held serve in the next game to narrow the gap to 5-4, but Wu responded by holding serve for the match.

WHAT IT MEANS: Wu not only made history for China, but he denied Geller the chance to become only the second US Open boys' singles champion from Argentina. The first (and last) was David Nalbandian in 1998.

Congrats Wu and keep up with the excellent works!

NEW YORK, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Swiss veteran Martina Hingis captured her second US Open doubles title after pairing Chinese Taipei's Chan Yung-Jan to win the women's doubles on Sunday.

Hingis won the mixed doubles title with Britain's Jamie Murray on the previous day, and Sunday's title is also her 13th Grand Slam women's doubles title as Hingis and Chan sent Czechs Lucie Hradecka and Katerina Siniakova crashing at 6-3, 6-2 in the final.

For Hingis, it was her 25th career Grand Slam title overall. She won the 1997 US Open and Australian Open and Wimbledon singles titles and the 1998 and 1999 Australian Open singles titles as well as seven mixed doubles titles, including this year's Wimbledon and US Open mixed titles.

"It was an amazing feeling to play here in the singles final," said Hingis, who will be 37. "Coming back 20 years later, it has been a wonderful journey."

Two allegations against Japan
1, the challenge system seemed to be altered. Everyone who has watched live could see that episode, the photo shows the ball is in, but then a big English word "out" is shown.

I saw it!

2, (this point needs more investigation) It is claimed when the camera was on Japanese players and their coach, there were voices from the Chinese coach. It is alleged that they were spying on the Chinese coach to know Chinese team's plan for the next point.

And Japan invited extremely weak South Korea as the only additional team instead of strong teams like Serbia and Holland. Now we see the good effect, Japan ranked above South Korea, both bottom 2!

Hmm I think FIVB has a set of rules to determine which teams can be qualified to compete in the World Grand Champions Cup. The competition is held every 4 years. Each of the teams like China, Brazil USA and Russia are representing their continent respectively. They are very strong teams. S Korea's being invited could be controversial because they entered the event on a "wild card" rule and because jpn is the host so I think they can decide which team to be picked to their liking. The jps were trying to maximise their chances of winning their tournament by design obviously.

Regarding the injustice in the ruling, I didn't watch the matches unfortunately so on this specific occasion I cant say more on it but the jps are not truely honest ppl since we have some bad experiences dealing with them contrary to what they are portraying themselves to the world.

Congrats Girls! You are the Best! :china:
Ha ha ha... very glad to see some members here do follow the Women's Volleyball as well :enjoy: I just spent many hours watching those WGCC matches, and about one month earlier the WGP series incl. the Final Six.

The youtube replay links of all the 15 matches can be found here:
http://grandchampionscup.2017.women.fivb.com/en/schedule

Yeah, a cool comeback for the CHN team with the core players to patch the earlier weakness in the WGP F6, a disappointing tournament for the host. CONGRATULATIONS 中国女排

Just FYI the KOR team was so weak because they focus on the ASIAN QUALIFIERS for the 2018 World Championship to be held n THA on Sep 20 to 24, 2017 plus some players were injured... and KYK was not playing. It's true that JPN invited KOR cuz KOR team is weaker. Had they invited strong team like SRB/NED/ITA then JPN might end up at the bottom :P
Worry not the dirty tricks, the CHN team ain't THA team, few tricks just won't win JPN team over the CHN team... the gap is simply too wide! Just don't see on how the JPN team can win over the CHN team in any match that really matters

The next most important event will be the 2018 WCh (i.e. World Championship). And BRA and SRB will be the toughest opponents for the CHN team there.

But before that there's the Asian Qualifier for WCh:
Women’s World Championship ASIAN QUALIFIERS From Sept 20 to 24, 2017 - AVC

POOL A - September 20 to 24 - KAZ
The Rio Olympic gold medallists China, hosts Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Australia and Fiji. Only top two teams from this pool will make the cut for the next year’s Japan Finals.

Btw, any one who has access/acc to Waha Sports forum,... please help I'm looking for the CCTV-5 Full-match replays with 1080P TS files... I am looking for the TS files at Baidu Cloud for the WGCC matches: CHN v USA; CHN v BRA; CHN v RUS and CHN v KOR. I already got the link of CHN v JPN. I see member posted the links at Waha but being locked, just for member only. Thanks.
