China has openly referred to Pakistan as a "iron-clad friend" and reaffirmed its unflinching support for the country, promising to completely support Pakistan sovereignty and territorial integrity during a high level diplomatic conference in Beijing. In a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on May 20, 2025, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the strength of the two nations strategic partnership during a period of increased regional tension following recent conflicts between India and Pakistan.

Wang Yi emphasized that China and Pakistan maintain “close strategic communication” and a tradition of mutual support, describing the relationship as a model of “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.” He stated unequivocally that “as ironclad friends, China will, as always, firmly support Pakistan in safeguarding its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, exploring a development path suited to its national conditions, resolutely combating terrorism, and playing a greater role in international and regional affairs”, this message comes at a critical moment, as Pakistan faces both external security challenges and internal development needs.

The Chinese foreign minister also encouraged Pakistan and India to resolve their differences through dialogue, calling for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire after the most severe military confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors in nearly three decades. Wang Yi praised the recent ceasefire agreement and urged both sides to seek fundamental solutions through negotiation, which he said would serve the long-term interests of regional peace and stability.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar responded by expressing his sincere gratitude for Chinese unwavering support, particularly Beijing initiatives to uphold regional stability and encourage a ceasefire, in addition to restating Islamabad support for the "one-China principle," Dar underlined Pakistan's dedication to preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity, he also emphasized how much Pakistan admires China's technological and innovative accomplishments and expressed optimism that China will continue to help Pakistan overcome its present security and economic obstacles.

Both nations committed to strengthening their collaboration in a variety of fields, including trade, investment, agriculture, industrialization, energy, human resource development and counterterrorism, in addition to their diplomatic promises. In order to further solidify China's position as Pakistan's top strategic and economic partner, they also talked about modernizing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor CPEC and extending it to Afghanistan.

China's renewed support comes at a crucial moment. It occurs in the midst of continuous international scrutiny of regional security and only days after a significant military flare-up in Kashmir, Chinese open support for Pakistan sends a strong message to New Delhi and the rest of the world that Beijing supports Islamabad while promoting moderation and communication between India and Pakistan. China continues to be Pakistan's biggest supplier of munitions and a vital source of financial investment and diplomatic support, so this "iron-clad" support is not only symbolic but also useful.
