China bids for Winter 2022 Olympics

. . . .
Waste of money.

It's like free party for the world. China doesn't need more publicity. Olympics games are like royal gala for those athletes, esp. from those backward poor countries, once in lifetime! lol

From what I heard on radio, couple of countries have withdrawn from bidding and only 3 are bidding, 2 of which tiny insignificant countries.

I believe in future fewer and fewer countries are willing to host those stupid games. What a waste of money. World Expo is way better, lol.

China doesn't need to prove to the world. I don't see how if you spend $50b on winter games, will you make more than 50b in return for the game?

Most likely not with winter games asevents are not as popular as summer games.

thumbs down to the CPC committee with this bid.

This money is good for 25-30 055 destroyers

Every major country bid and organized Winter Olympics, including the US, Canada and many others.

In fact, poor, backward countries like India, Vietnam or Turkey have not been seen holding Olympics.

This, I agree with, though. Expos and trade fairs are better although, an Olympics might also be good for the overall image of a nation. Of course, to get respect, we my need more still and serious talk than smiles, cute stuff and clowns.

In summer Olympics in Beijing, China made money, although not that big. But, at least, it was not a loss. Winter Olympics is sort of scaled down version. China can utilize most of the existing infrastructure. And if enough visitors are attracted, it may be a profit for the many service industries across the Olympics area.

I think we will not beat down Almaty.Beijing area is too dry in winter.

. .
Is it worth it?

Like Beijing will be spending loads of money on winter olympics, which isn't any close to importance than summer Olympics. What will be the benefit?
These days most of the developed countries aren't interested in hosting the event due to the involved costs.

China has the money and Beijing will become the first city ever hosted both summer and winter Olympics in the world.

Is it a wise investment?

Can't you rather spend the same money to build 2 more aircraft carriers? Or perhaps a Laser Weapon?

Does this title really matter in the long run?

I understand that Beijing Summer Olympics was important in many ways, but I just don't feel that this is the right investment. Very few people actually are involved in Winter Games, and Beijing already has the international attention that an Olympics Brings.

I would rather give hosting the World Cup much more big priority. (I know Beijing is working on it) That is a good investment.

Beijing's Bid for 2022 Winter Olympics

Hosting that game won't cost much money, for Beijing's already has most of the facilities needed. China's defense budget is always very small in percentage to China's total GDP, and building carriers is small money doesn't really count much.
