China angered after U.S. fighter jets land in Taiwan| Reuters

(Reuters) - China's Foreign Ministry expressed anger on Thursday after two U.S. fighter jets landed in Taiwan, in a rare official contact between the militaries of the United States and the self-ruled democratic island.

Taiwan's Central News Agency said the two F-18s landed at an air force base in southern Taiwan on Wednesday after experiencing mechanical problems. It said it was not clear where they were coming from or where they were going.

"We have already made solemn representations to the U.S. side," China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Hua Chunying, told a regular news briefing.

"China demands that the United States strictly abide by the 'one-China policy' ... and cautiously and appropriately handle this incident."

The United States is obligated to help Taiwan defend itself, under the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979, when Washington severed formal ties with the island to recognize the People's Republic of China in Beijing.

U.S. weapons sales in recent years to Taiwan, or indeed any formal contact between the two armed forces, have provoked strong condemnation by China, but have not caused lasting damage to Beijing's relations with either Washington or Taipei.

China views Taiwan as a renegade province and has not ruled out the use of force to bring it under its control.

While Taiwan and China have signed a series of landmark trade and economic agreements since 2008, political and military suspicions still run deep, especially in democratic Taiwan, where many fear China's true intentions.

China's military modernization has also been accompanied by a more assertive posture in its regional territorial disputes.

US Marine Corps F/A-18s land in Taiwan after mechanical issue

Two US Marine Corps F/A-18C Hornet fighters made an emergency landing at Tainan Air Force Base on Taiwan on 1 April after one of the aircraft experienced a mechanical issue.

"A persistent engine oil pressure warning light precipitated the precautionary emergency landing of one aircraft. The second landed in order to maintain section integrity," the 1st Marine Air Wing said in a statement. "The aircraft, which were from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 323 (VMFA-323), were en route to Singapore to participate in exercise 'Commando Sling', which is an air-to-air exercise with Singapore."

VMFA-323 is based at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar but is currently flying out of MCAS Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.

A China J8 lost ( a pilot missing ) while corner a US EP-3 in international airspace ? Am I wrong?

FYI, this is kind of a game between the big countrys, as you may have no idea what it is.

Hot temper and simple minded person aren't she, the Chinese Foreign minister i mean

I think even the American fighter will much prefer trying to landing in Russia if they had the emergencies situation like that

Again ... big country stories? and "you may have no idea what it is"
I suggest you save that big country story home.

Or tell us "what it is"
---------------------------------
The peaceful surface can't hide what beneath when US show their ignorance by sending 2 B52 to newly declared ADIZ in East China Sea.
Is it popular to see such an act like that? Surprised ?

“corner a US EP-3 in international airspace“
If you know what it is. you should know that:
1, It's not "corner", it's just the dance between two planes, and it happens always, used to between USSR and Usa, only now some times between PRC and USA.
2, "international airspace", what you think would happen, when a non-American plan near Americans land about 150 km from the sea? American Standard to do such thing is 370km.
3, Because there maybe non such thing happen between little countrys, I think you may have no diea what it is and give some non sence commons.

. .
I think you got the picture wrong.

EP-3E ARIES II
"The EP-3 aircraft that was forced down in China in early 2001 was rebuilt, and resumed flying."

Is your plane still flying?
It's just a draw picture show some idea, such like EP3 is not welcome here, and the 81192 is always in our mind~
And people say chinese are too serious~

1. I used softer words, exactly China J8 pilot collided to EP3 because of his low skill of flying.
2. It's international airspace by the Law which China follow
3. American surrounded you, just like how they surround any other countries. They are big, but they still follow the rule just like any other "small" countries.
So I think there's no anything as "thing happen between big countries"
Tell me how "big" China is in this case? by sending 2 J8 escort a EP-3 and unintentionally collided to it and lost his life?

This is the game between big and small - Linebacker Operation 1972. We dared to send our Mig-21 to shoot down B-52 violated our airspace.

1, Sorry that I didn't know you was also on the EP3 and you are a air plan expert. Which you are NOT.
2, YES, it's international airspace, but do you know the different between "international airspace" and ADIZ?
3, Yeah, just like the PRISM and so on.
