I'm confused at discrimination against girl child and child marriages. I thought they'd evolved beyond this.

So did I. I guess when you talk of communist nations - it is tough to figure out what news filters out and what does not.

I just read this article in Daily Mail.

Can the Chinese members comment on this?

I always was under the assumption that the Chinese authorities were very strict about their rules. Also, looking at the pictures - rural China looks a lot like rural India.

Do the authorities turn a blind eye?
Daily mail uk is anti China BS website. You can gladly ignore such malicious article. Their data and source are highly suspicions. Just quote a few example and claim it's a trend for 1.3billion population is just a cheap shot used to generate dubious viewership.

.
In some rural parts it is very backwards but these marriages are by choice, not forced.

It isn't as bad as some rich old bastard marrying a young teen age girl.

And in regards to the poster that said rural china is like rural India - it is nothing alike.

They clearly state this is a growing trend - they certainly don't state that the entire population follows this trend. My question remains - is the State of China doing something to curb this or are they turning a blind eye?

Oh please. I can see the pictures. They look like any third world country anywhere in the world - be it India, China, South Africa or any other part.

‘We’re more mature than we look’: China’s ‘child marriage’ couple share their views on love
The teenage couple whose wedding photos captivated the internet this week know their future won’t be easy but are confident they’ll get by together

The 16-year-old baby-faced Chinese couple whose wedding banquet photos went viral on China’s social media this week, have come to share their views on love and marriage.

To the boy, Zhang Jiale, love is “to take up responsibility, to support one’s wife and parents”, he told Beijing Times on Thursday.

He admitted, thought, that “I don’t have that ability yet”.

Although the legal age for marriage in China is 22 for men and 20 for women, a teenage couple from Mashan county in Guangxi province went through the traditional wedding ceremony with their parents’ approval on February 15.

The girl, Wu Mingmin, said love was “being good to each other”.

“No matter whether you are right or wrong, I will stand by you. I will give all that is good to you,” she said.

Wu said early marriages were common in areas like theirs in the nation’s underdeveloped southwest. “Early marriages, late marriages – there’s no difference. As long as we love each other,” she said.

“Love and marriage are the same, because it is only with love that there can be marriage. Perhaps there will be a lot of responsibilities, but it’s OK if two people shoulder them together.”

According to the report, the couple were introduced to each other through friends in January last year and it was “love at first sight”.

They started dating in March, and in June, Zhang took Wu to meet his parents, who blessed their relationship.

As Wu’s parents live and work in Guangzhou, Wu started staying over at Zhang’s home frequently.

“We are not each other’s first loves. Both of us started dating at Year One in secondary school. It’s very common – 30 out of 50 in our class are in relationships,” Zhang said.

The couple live with Zhang’s parents and his three siblings in their single-storey home.

“I think he is a person you can depend on for your whole life,” Wu said, adding that Zhang tries to make her happy whenever she gets angry.

When they go out, Zhang does not talk chat to other girls present, she said.

“We didn’t hesitate [to get married]. My mother was afraid I would be like my sisters and get pregnant before getting married, so she agreed to our marriage,” Wu said.

For the past two years, Zhang has been working at construction sites in Nanning and takes home 3,500 yuan (HK$4,160) a month.

He plans to bring Wu, who dropped out of school last year, into the industry with him.

“We know it will be tough, but if we endure it together, there’s nothing we can’t overcome,” Wu said. “Although we look like children, our thoughts are that of adults. We are more mature than our actual age.”

Western media is really bullshit. I'm from a small county in hinterland China and I have relatives in villages, I havn't seen or heard of a single case of child marriage. But I won't negate there are maybe some cases considering CHina is so huge, but come on, western media is really working hard to find any little dark side about CHina, I'm very impressed by their hard work!

From the report and my search on Internet. Child marriage mostly happen in that single province, Yunnan, one of the poorest provinces where there are a lot of ethnic minority people.

oh boy,oh boy,I have lived in dis country for almost 40 years and I have never seen those things before.
nice news.
this must be some original race in south east china.

They are from the underdeveloped southwest region of China, mainly Yunnan and Guizhou province, where it is mountainous, away from urban area and hard to reach.

If some of them is not interested in continuing their education, prefer to start a family early, and both family agree, I don't see anything seriously wrong with it.

Maybe that is not the smartest path, but for them it is the only one available. They work for a living and make a family, and therefore is responsible member of society. Who are we to say that they would not make a better life together.

From the reply in social network, most people in China are supportive and wish them a good future.

This is an ongoing project from Chinese gov't to help rural area poverty.

China plans to relocate 2.49 mln poor people in 2016
Source: Xinhua | 2016-04-15 19:04:25 | Editor: huaxia

BEIJING, April 15 (Xinhua) -- More than 2.49 million impoverished people will be relocated in 2016, in the latest effort to deliver on the government's target of lifting all people out of poverty by 2020.

The top economic planner, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), together with several other agencies, demanded that local authorities in 22 provinces and regions intensify efforts to achieve the target.

To support this, the NDRC has allocated 16 billion yuan (2.5 billion U.S. dollars) to the regions since March, and several loans and funds have also been promised.

Despite China's stellar economic growth over the past decades, there are still 70 million people living below the poverty line of 2,300 yuan in annual income by 2010 price standards last year, many in harsh conditions without roads or water and power.

The authorities describe eliminating rural poverty as the most difficult challenge in building a "moderately prosperous society," and the government aims to help the remaining poor shake off poverty and enjoy essential social services by 2020.

.

China now has GDP per capita nearly 8,000 USD / year, mean upper middle income.
I think it's better to raise the poverty line up to 5,000 yuan / year, ( about 2 USD per day )
2,300 yuan per annual, means 355 USD / year or 94 US cents per day is even lower than standard used by much poorer countries.

Really?

They have a roof, decent clothes, healthy complexions, literacy, electricity, tv, furniture and one hell of a view from the mountain tops.

This is the arse end of China where development is difficult due to the terrain and the people start to blur with S.E.A peoples.

I am 32 years old and have no kids or wife.

Spent the last 2 decades studying and working my butt off and in some ways these married kids are richer than I am.

On rise? from the article, I can't read any data trustable, can you undeline them?:coffee:

Strict rule also can't solve anything, you logic is very ridiculous.

So did I. I guess when you talk of communist nations - it is tough to figure out what news filters out and what does not.
If can't figure out, don't think it, is that important for you? and can you tell me, how you get Child Marriage in China is on raise? :coffee:

They clearly state the trand? hehe, based on what? who give them data, China government or they did that by theirself?

First check how many child marriage are there in China now, if just a few, don’t criticize too early, you are too strict to CCP, if you apply this standard to India Government, even to USA, it will be interesting.

Oh please. I can see the pictures. They look like any third world country anywhere in the world - be it India, China, South Africa or any other part.
You can see the picture? hehe, what's picture? I don't think so, what I see the picture is you are too superficial.

If you want prove China are same with India, south Africa to satisfy yourself, it doesn't matter.

China is developing country, even richer than India, but also unbalanced, don't tell me, you think in USA, not girl who have child before legal age.

Honestly, I can't make head or tail or what you are trying to say. You might as well be typing in Hebrew.

A view is a geographical accident. I know no country has raised so many millions out of poverty as quickly as China has and it deserves full credit for the same. It just struck me because I've only seen the glitzy bit of China - Shanghai - in the media.
