Why can't Bangladesh just have a clean break from those 2 families?
It's a nation of 160 million.
Surely, there are effective leaders out there.
If you take my word, I would humbly like to state that democracy is the reason why Bangladeshis don't want to move from family rule. Democracy is not for Bangladesh. So we are getting actually dynastic rule using the sugar coat of democracy.
Look at China, how well it is doing. The fate of Bangladesh is a
semi military rule since our neighbors are hostile.
Democracy will fail us, but western countries don't like pure Chinese model in South Asia, so we have a govt like this. Military will not interfare as long as public isn't disapointed, it's not their duty.
You can't make leaders in such countries overnight, so it's a lengthy process to make good leaders outside of family based politics that stared 29 years ago.
So there is no chance of moving forward before destroying one side permanently. BNP did bad, so half of family dynasty gone.
And later after a specific time I think some oppositions will be raised apart from BNP family, and they will make AL politics harder. And maybe later AL family heritage will be gone too.
But the difference is historical AL is not a family based political party. So in future ( when Hasina gone) it has a better chance to replace this family politics. Although current situation is not saying so.
The real question is who do Bangladeshis want to be?
Perhaps don't want to be scapegoat again. So they remain silent, because their livelihood will be under threat in the name of restoration of caretaker govt if they show interest in politics now.
Only hungry and needy people understand that voting right has less value for them as it really doesn't digest in their hungry belly, but a stable political condition is more favorable for work, earn and buy food with the hard earning money.
