ISRO chairperson AS Kiran Kumar said that rigorous tests were underway for the spacecraft’s landing on the surface of the moon. He said this while delivering a speech at the seventh annual convocation of Vels University.
“An engine will be developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for controlled landing The mission is presently being planned for early next year, he said. In this regard, a lunar surface replete with a crater was developed to practise landing experiments.

A series of ground tests were also in progress at ISRO facility in Mahendragiri, Tirunelveli district and at Challakere in Chitradurga district near Bengaluru.

When asked about the Venus mission, Kumar said the project had not been finalised yet, but talks were on. Chandrayaan 2 comprising Orbiter, Lander and Rover configuration, is the latest version of the Chandrayaan-1 mission.

At the moment, the Satish Dhawan Space Centre scientists at Sriharikota are preparing for a Saarc satellite launch on board GSLV MK-II by March-end and the first developmental flight of GSLV MK-III in April.

While the Orbiter with scientific payloads will orbit around the moon, the Lander will make a soft landing on the moon and deploy the Rover. Kumar said unlike the earlier lunar mission, the second one to the moon would have a six feet rover that will conduct in situ soil analysis after making a soft landing on the moon.

It may be recalled the space agency scripted history by launching a record of 104 satellites on a single rocket in February 2017.

I am more excited about our Venus mission than chandrayaan. There is very little to none study has been conducted so far on Venus, earth's true twin sister. We should participate along with Israelis in this regards, they can provide very light weight yet high resolution synthetic aperture radar antennas for such mission.
