India’s attempt to find a private partner to operate cargo facilities at the Chabahar Port in Iran has failed for a second time in a little over two years amid doubts over the commercial viability of the port due to US sanctions against Tehran.

According to Chabahar Port data collected by JOC.com, a mere 225 TEU of cargo moved through IPGPL’s assets at Chabahar in the first three months of this year, compared with 50,410 TEU for all of 2018.

With potential partners for Chabahar hard to come by, industry sources say they expect India to offer more flexible and investor-friendly terms when it issues its third RFP for the port. Stakeholders are said to be weighing allowing concessions on transport costs, including a special tariff scale for calls at Jawaharlal Nehru and Kandla, as well as more attractive inland charges for truck freight movement across Iran into Afghanistan. Officials at the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Mumbai declined to comment when contacted by JOC.com.

Indian were so driven up by the hatred for Pakistan that they invested in Chabahr port without checking for the feasibility. Well its enough to tell us about how smart our Enemy is.
Why Chabahar is not feasible? Care to explain?

Only way it can be feasible if its interlinked with Gawadar port by land route. Difference between both is that gawadar is deep sea port and can handle big commercial ships. Iran can take benefit of it by converting the chahbahar route as dry port. So it can handle both east west and north south trade. If iran keeps it only India oriented route it won't be successful. Chahbahar need to be linked to central Asian countries to make it more successful not just for India but for rest of the world.

The purpose was to counter Gwader, even Indians know this port is economically not viable.
There is no comparison of Chahbar and Gawadar. Chahbar is not deep water open sea port, plus it can only accommodate 3 to 4 cargo ships at time. Gawadar can accommodate minimum 30 cargo and some say around 70 ships can accommodate. So, I really fail to understand why we compare two ports.

The real purpose of India to establish Chabahar port was for it to serve as a terror platform against Pakistan. It is meant to a staging point of hindutva Terrorism from the Iranian port into pakistan... It was a terrorist investment by India for causing Terrorism in Balochistan!

I think Iran learn the lesson hard way, after K Yadav a Indian navel intelligence game plan. Hope Iran won't make this mistake again and never trust Indian trade covers.

India wanted a land route access to Afghanistan so she can send so-called civil help to his Afghan brothers. Now that Americans are leaving Afghanistan, India is leaving too, with that Chabahar become worthless automatically.

Is the Gawadar port complete? How much goods in tons has the port seen?
