KARACHI - Pakistan was expected to use the occasion of the cricket World Cup semifinal match between India and Pakistan at Mohali in India on Wednesday to attempt to resolve the issue of cement trade between the two countries.

With a huge surplus in production capacity, cement plants in Pakistan are unable to sell even half of their production, while cement units in India are running at full capacity and selling at 40-45% higher rates. Analysts believe that Pakistan's diminishing cement demand of cement is related to cuts in development spending by the cash-strapped government, which is unlikely to have improved finances in the near future.
