Causes of Ukrainian army defeat by Pro-Russian Rebels

Hi,
I wanted to know how the Ukrainian army went from attacking stance to defending stance. Ukraine must have a nice army and all the tools needed to defend.

Initially there were news that unkraine army was wining and retook many areas from pro-russian rebels. But suddenly there was a russian help and tide of the war changed and pro-russian kicked the hell out of ukraine army.

I don't think the ukraine army was poorly trained or have lack of resources.(guns and tanks)

From the internet I can deduce only two points

1) Rebels got lot of supply and 2) rebels were very professionally trained and accurate ( i think russian army soilders)

What are the other main points the ukrainian army was defeated.

If we encounter the same scenario with India what would Pak army have to do as the indian army have more resource than us.

Please give your views about it.

Ukraine have enough conventional arms to retake Donbass in one week.It is a fact.

But they failed.Why?

1)Low morale of the soldiers.
2)Few percent of Neonazis who terrorize all population from Lvov to Donetsk,and that caused low morale of the soldiers.
3)Undefined enemy.If russia openly take a part in destabilization of Ukraine,Ukraine soldiers would be a harder enemy.
4)Bad chain of command
5)Bad logistic.
6)Not taking care of its conventional arms for almost two and half decades.

When you summerize you get a result.On the other hand Rebels or better to say Army of Novorussia have a unique chain of commend probably guided by FSB or Russian army.

I believe it would have been threats from Russia, if Ukraine would have pushed too hard then Russia would have got involved and then they would have been defending Kiev

Ukrainian army riddled with corruption from top to bottom. Financing of the army since 1991, went on a residual basis. Thanks to Soviet factories Ukraine could export arms, but Ukr army could not buy new. In the Ukrainian army was pactically no military trainings, only in conjunction with NATO or the CIS. Suitable equipment to fight - no more than 10% of the total. Morale is low, since most of the soldiers - natives of the areas for which Russia is much closer than western Ukrainians, who staged a coup and Maidan. In April and May, while the Nazi commissioners had not yet been in the army, the soldiers simply gave technique to militia and went home. Nazi punitive battalions, consisting of activists of the Maidan and the paramilitary wing of the nationalist parties of Ukraine - good against unarmed children and the elderly, but against an equal opponent, they do not fight, just run away.
On the other hand militia - is 90% of the local residents, 5% - of the inhabitants of other regions of Ukraine and 5% of the volunteers from abroad (mainly - from Russia). They protect their land, so their morale extremly high. If at first the militia has 20-30 times less forces than junta, after heavy artillery shelling and air raids militia beginning grow very rapidly. Now militia inferior forces junta only 2-3 times, and in techincs too.
Do not overestimate the help of Russia. Russia helps Donbass no more than the West helps Ukraine.

Morale played a huge factor, not to mention that many Ukrainian soldiers were reluctant to fight the rebels and that many of them even abandoned their posts/joined the rebels.
Morale coupled with the corruption factor, along with the lack of professionalism and training in the Ukrainian Army are the main reasons for their failure.
When you examine the state of the Ukrainian Army a bit more closely, its pretty plausible that the rebels could defeat them, even without Russian help. Though Russia probably does support them indirectly with funds or weapons.

I never said russia was , i was implying that maybe the western europe / nato wants to test things before escalating this conflict

very soon you will see nato backpedaling, they won't risk eu airliners going bankrupt due to the closure of russian airspace. meanwhile, novorossiya is in the making. so what are they testing actually? get it right, the usa and nato have been defeated and humiliated in front of the whole world.
