Also there is way your archived Whatsapp message can be decrypted

Whatsapp is registered with a sim, but once activated, it can easily be replaced by another sim and you would still receive messages on the old number.
Whatsapp actually relies on your device's WiFi Mac address once registered. Spoof that and you've got someone else's Whatsapp service. But yours can be snooped on in the same way. So beware.

1)a good mobile anti-virus
2)Ensuring the whatsapp is on its latest update
3)Ensuring your phone is not rooted

I have never been in favor of anti-virus apps on Android or iOS. They serve no real purpose except use too much RAM and CPU and result in battery drain and tremendous lags.
Easier way is to avoid root/jail-break.
If you're already rooted, Xprivacy and Firewall apps are the way to go. They can take whatever data they want, but firewalls prevent contact with their servers and Xprivacy just gives bogus info.

I can even run whatsapp on my tablet which dont have any sim card slot in it and there is another hacked version of whatsapp plus which give you some extra functions like hiding your online status and sending large files, change theme and modify font...whatsapp is must app after this calling feature but anything can be hacked from Facebook to Skype, hotmail account..my hotmail account got hacked once and i did not remember the security question so i could not retrieve it
