Here is interesting read on fast moving ME development
U.S. Moves on Syria, Iran Anger Saudi Arabia - WSJ.com
But you know that this deal is not the first missile TOT deal with china?
We had allready a similar tot deal back in 80s with china.
WS-1
Well, ME is a bubbling cauldron, nobody know what happens tomorrow, so i wont be suprised if they would find a compromise in Syrian issue.
Maybe even Iranian nuclear talks could do a little progress.
80's was a different era and Turkey was governed with different outlook than today. Now order in geo politics much more fragmented and contradictory. Having said that WS-1 was MBRL system not much regional implications but missile defense has long term and regional implications.
Besides, Turkey could gain much more prominance and get more economic benefit by interacting more with east.
Ofcourse it will interact more with east, its allready doing, but that doesnt mean its something against west, Turkey will continue its warm relations with west while building new relations in east.
I dont think it is about hostile relation with west. It is matter of priority on relation based on interest and strategy. Priority on eastern relation should give turkey more benefit. BUT the way western mindset works they may not give you choice of making priority based on your interest. That is where political leadership and decision will be crucial for Turkey in coming days.
