Can India make Fifth Generation fighters? All depends on Kaveri engine's developmen

kaveri will eventually be successful, India does not lack the resources or skill sets to create a modern jet engine.

Building a reliable jet engine is one thing and building a reliable super cruising jet engine is another thing. Even Chinese are having trouble developing their own super cruising jet engines for their own fifth gen fighters.

Yes, but the Chinese has not many options do they? The west doesn't share tech with them. They might have tried to steal but jet engine tech, unlike F-22's and 35's are kept very safe. They can at most copy the AL-41F engine for which they are buying out the Su-35.
Otoh the Chinese have made an agreement with the Russians that they'll respect IP.

If I understand correctly, the French connection for the program comes as one of the offsets in India procuring 36 Rafale aircraft (after the apparent failure of the MRCA competition). DRDO and SNECMA will work together to both bring the engine to a production worthy state and integrate it onto Tejas.

I'm willing to bet that this is not going to be an easy or fast process. But given the amount of monies already invested into the program, it was certainly the correct decision to make.

Why is India involving France then?
Because India lacks the basic of engine block building.
There are many richer nation than India who would love to make them, but they simply can't.
This is the most complex technology which even the Germans lack.
Its not good if you brag in favor of India on this.
Nobody would lend any credence to your above post.
Jingoism might be good in selective cases - certainly not here.

In 2030, if at all India made their Fifth Generation fighter, you will see a sixth generation fighter jet in the market. So India would not dominate any impact on fighter industry for long. India lacks crucial technologies, that are not even obtainable as ToT from western nations who are privy to them. This is their bread n butter.

you are totally right. Even Japan and Germany will struggle a lot to develope a jet engine like Ej200.

German and Japan are active participants in aero-engine project. for example, MTU has share in V2500/ej200/PW1000,but usually Low pressure part.(less difficult than hp parts)。 Japan is the same.
they are never the leader of those project. they lack the experience to design the whole engine. they do not has the whole facilities to develope an modern Engin like PW1000 or Ej200.
.
The Obvious leader of aero-engine :GE,PW and R.R,followed by Russians/SAFRAN(Russians are better at large military jet engine, but SAFRAN is much better at civil engine).

Indian‘s fifth generation fighter depends on kaveri??? seriously? they are doomed then.
