Can india let go of kashmir?

What will be the consequences of India letting go Kashmiris on their way? I know it would never happen..we can never forget the killings of thousands of Kashmiri Pandits and our Jawans. However, hypothetically is there anything we are going to lose ? How would be the reaction of the rest of India? Would people come on to streets? Would it have a long lasting impact on our peace and economy?
No need to let go of Kashmir.

Eventually, you're all going to be a part of something BIGGER and BETTER. Don't worry, we'll take care of you as we've done so for over 800 years in the past. Hum hain na.

When did these 800 years start & finish ?

From the usual rant of 1000 years which most posters give, I observe 200 years have reduced.

small concentrated minority of Islamic militants.

Not minority. It's appears by all accounts and observations to be a sizable majority. The whole paradigm of "a few dozen miscreants" in the valley is constructed by successive Indian administrations and made to be endlessly parroted by domestic media outlets - readily bought by naive, gullible, and nationalistic Indians. The situation on ground is far more frightening then anything your state will ever acknowledge. (The curfew in the valley, for instance, has now been enforced for more than 44 consecutive days)

Indian population, by and large, has been disingenuously and quite cunningly kept in the dark for the last 70 years. And unless the collective approach of Indian society turns objective and pragmatic, they'll stay forever trapped in this self-righteous illusion.

after some time they will melt away like ISIS or consumed by some thing larger than themselves.

Isn't that what your state said 60 years ago? 50 years ago? 40 years ago? 30 years ago? 20 years ago? 10 years ago? And now? At it's core, it's just a lie you keep telling yourself over and over again as it's gives you a semblance of hope, however spurious it may be.

Its just like mafia gangs nothing lasts forever thats built on violence.

Exactly. Nothing that's built on violence lasts forever. Now could you please reverse the vector and apply the same time-tested principle on your state's conduct in occupied valley? How long do you think your state will be able to deny the disillusioned populace from J&K their legitimate right of self-determination through use of pallet guns, forced abductions, torture, rape, and use of excessive force as an instrument of intimidation?

Everything becomes clear if you're but willing to take the blindfold of nationalism off your eyes.

Certainly the people deserve to Get their Freedom to Choose (Democratic means)

  • UK allowed Scotland chance to decide their future
  • UK voted democratically to find their freedom from European Union no blood shed
  • Canada gave Qubeec chance to decide if they want free state or remain in Canada
  • UK , gave back Hong Kong to china in return for peaceful ties
  • France allowed Algeria their freedom now they enjoy reasonably decent ties many Algerians in France
  • USA after ww2 did not rule over Japan , they let the people go free and build new bridges of friendship and cooperation
  • Germany and Germans brought down the wall between their nation becasue they realized it is the will of people now (realization of the obvious)

India - Pakistan both enjoy freedom day (15th august and 14th august) so why the same fruit is denied to Kashmiri people to be able to choose their own path by vote ?

For 70 Years same struggle for Kashmiri people a democratic solution, demanding that right from a nation who claims to honor democracy

Democracy means - vote and majority rules , so why they should be slaves by action of 1 prince's vote

Indians could still visit Kashmir as tourist it is not like they live there anyways they visit like once in blue moon

Today we love UK for what they eventually did (freed the people peacefully) which is why many have homes in UK why? It is simple becasue UK knew when to let it go!!!
  • Example a lot of Indian-Pakistani-Sikh call UK their home second home

If you love someone and if they don't return the favor , it is time to let that feeling go and move on , Indian temptation with Kashmiri is vote / election driven. There is sentimental association , it never really belonged to India from day one and now we stand after 70 year still the same argument "free people of Kashmir" and move on

If UK can remain a vibrant culture and society after freeing both Pakistan and India , I am sure future will look at India in same way

We are open to doing a population exchange; those who want to join you can join you and you can give us those who don't want to stay or cannot stay with you.

Most welcome for such an arrangement to suit both sides.

Land however, remains the way it is.

At any cost.

I really don't understand their fascination with tribal invasions of the past.

Sure and soon India will, in exchange of something that , Kashmir is nothing infront of that. Modi ji ko laya hi is liay gaya hai keh woh Kashmir ko aazad kerdain. Ladakh will continue to be the part of India and Baltistan will be a part of Pakistan. Azad Kashmir will also be a part of Kashmir state. But again this is my guess. May b I am utterly wrong.

what kashmiri bhayyas need,,is an outsider,, who inspires thm to appreciate thr similarities wid othr hindu bhayyas.
these outsiders shud be of tribal heritage :D just a couple of naga tribes will do the job in a decade,,,preferably the konyaks.

Chances of first ISIS regime at next door in SA with the very high chances of depopulating kafreen from valley & surrounding areas posing a direct threat to Kafreen mulk....

The same "lasting peace" can conceivably be achieved if Pakistan simply lets go of Kashmir.....would you not agree? However for both Pakistan & India, national vision of how we see ourselves are connected to the issue. No such absolute movement is possible, for either side.
True,

Let's look at it this way, can giving away Kashmir simply wash away and solve the overlying issue of hatred between two countries which caused three wars and so many deaths? Kashmir is just the tip, the rivalry between the two for superiority would not end until the other one is completely done for.
Yes It will,
because mostly Kashmir is cited in our hostilities.

Probably India will launch a major military operation or carpet bomb and clear Kashmir before so-called 'letting it go'
