Guys as Ramadan is just round the corner, I was thinking of doing the fasting as well. Since my missus will be fasting, I think it will be a bit unfair if I eat in front of her, or expect her to cook for me while she is fasting.

So basically couple of questions,

- Can a non Muslim fast?

- If yes, then basic do's and don'ts for the first timer.

I ll request the mods to delete/close the thread as soon as I get my answers.

No trolling and personal attacks please.

Thanks :)

You can choose to have a fast, or not eat.

It will not be a 'roza' for you, rather just abstaining from eating.

You can do it, but it will not be called a fast in the muslim sense, i.e fasting for Allah.

So yeah, you can do it.

Which one is easy? Not eating for a month or not sh!ting for a month? we have seen people not eating for months just to please God, but eating too much and not sh!ting for months is right measurement of man's love to God as pain and tolerance is higher in latter. your views?

I used to fast on few days in Ramadan with my two muslim friends since college days, also we used to go to masjid for iftaar & sehri.
Majority of my friends even used to awake all night in masjid on night of Jumah-Tul-Wida...

Fasting for day & abstaining even from water bring peace & feeling of purity in mind & jab roza khulne ka time aata hai...its wonderful feeling of achievement & connection to some thing divine.

I still fast on 7th, 21th Roja & Jumah-tul-Wida ...

@ Thread :-
Sure You can fast, you can contact maulvi of nearest masjid & ask him persmission to attend sehri & iftaar gatherings.
I am sure he will gladly permit & even guide you to do so

"Fasting is prescribed to you as it was to those before you..." and some of "those before us" are now generally/often classified non-Muslim. Any remnant of fasting in any tradition would in my view come from that earlier prescription. And we know that nn-Muslims do fast, so your question is a non-question to begin with:)

Fasting according to the Muslim tradition is between the slave (your or me) and its Lord, and it's reward is measured out by Him according to your sincerety to the fast. So, one: it's completely between you and God, and you don't need to be called Abdullaah (i.e. Devdas :)) to fast. And two, if you're gonna fast, do it for the Creator and not just for the missus, keep your goals high!

There are just two major rules in a Muslim fast: you don't
- eat or drink (or smoke),
- copulate (just no penetration, foreplay is okay)
from dawn till dusk.

But because you're not a Muslim, you could chose to, say drink, while your fast.

Fasting by a non muslim does not count to be roza. But no problem in keeping fast to support and give company to your wife.
However, if it has to be for religious purpose and if you are a Hindu, any day fast may be kept for each day is pious for Hindus.
That way both of your purpose of keeping fast will be met.

Anyone can do pointless things :P

Perhaps if you explained your reasons for doing so.
