A Schiebel Camcopter S-100 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has completed shipboard trials with the South African Navy (SAN), the Austrian company announced on 27 October.
It said the trials were carried out from 20-23 October aboard the survey vessel SAS Protea and described them as successful, despite the "exceptional challenges" of turbulent winds, limited deck size, and a lack of a NATO landing grid.
The S-100 carried a Selex ES SAGE electronic support measures system that geo-locates radio-frequency sources: a capability Schiebel said would be ideal for supporting the SAN's maritime surveillance and anti-piracy missions.
