The cabinet on Monday approved Strategic Transport Plan (STP), a transport system to reduce traffic congestion in the capital.
A body will be formed within one or two months to implement the metro rail project under the STP, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the regular weekly cabinet meeting.
PMs Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told it to the newsmen after the meeting.
Earlier in the day, Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) submitted the STP report to the cabinet.
The cabinet also approved the drafts of National Women Development Policy, 2011 and Film, Society Registration Act, 2011.
However, Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multisectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (Bimstec) headquarters will be set up in Dhaka, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni informed the cabinet members.

We need the metro rail project asap. Cant tolerate daily 5km/hr by transport due to excessive traffic jam.
