The order is for 2000 electric buses

Global electric bus giant BYD has recently signed a framework agreement with the government of Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent Municipality for 2000 electric buses.
The agreement means Tashkent Municipality will buy 2,000 pure electric BYD K9UD buses.

BYD says its electric K9UD bus is widely recognised for its advanced six-in-one controller, high safety levels, reliability and passenger comfort.

The 12m long bus can hold up to 90 passengers, making it an ideal option for city bus and urban services.

The low entry design is a key part of the bus that will soon be running around Uzbekistan.

BYD says it will give local customers highly desirable and eco-friendly tailor-made solutions by customising its K9UD model according to the local climate and road conditions in Tashkent.

The first batch of the 200 unit order is expected to be delivered in 2024.

“We’re delighted to bring the zero-emissions BYD pure electric buses to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan,” BYD commercial vehicle operation division general manager Chunlong Tian says.

“We hope to work with the Tashkent government to provide safe, reliable, comfortable and clean public transport for local citizens while also showcasing BYD’s advanced products and technologies to the general public of Uzbekistan.”

Tashkent mayor Shavkat Umurzakov says the purchase agreement for pure electric buses with BYD is in line with Uzbekistan’s green mobility transition strategy.

“I believe it will contribute to improving the quality of life of citizens through the electrification of transport,” Umurzakov says.

The order is a milestone for BYD, who has gone from strength to strength since launching commercial electric buses in 2008.

As of September 2023, BYD has delivered more than 78,000 electric buses to customers globally, covering more than 70 countries and 400 cities.

BYD says it will continue to pioneer innovation in electric bus transportation with world-leading technologies and maintain its commitment to sustainability in local markets.
