ISLAMABAD - The project of a business train and Shalimar Express has fallen as both projects have exhausted millions of Pakistan Railways (PR), hence the experiment to run a public-private railways venture has fallen flat on its face. It has also been learnt that the government wanted to privatize PR in phases, and public-private enterprises of business train and Shalimar Express were steps in that direction. However both failed miserably over what sources described as inability of PR to surge ahead without active government participation. Sources opined further that adequate allocations could help PR come out of its current quagmire of crises.

Who in their right mind would want to takeover the trainwreck (no pun intended) that is PR these days?

Few days ago another thread said that Pak business express was profitable for Pak Railways.

Claims can be quite different than the reality oftentimes. No surprise there.

Don't know about the profits of this all and other details, but some folks that have met were all praise for the business train service, facilities and other conditions. They traveled from Karachi to Lahore. WiFi, chargers etc etc all in the coach.

The service itself may be great, but if it is not economically viable, it won't last long. That is the issue.

What is making it an affair of loss, we too have same services in India but they give lots of profit to railways.

Yup, can't expect much better with Bilour incharge!

Can an average person afford to spend like 5,000 + Rupees to go from Lahore to Karachi? :disagree:

Bilour is only the latest figurehead. The system that has ruined PR has many years and many faces.

It was much much better under Sheikh Rashid. It wasn't using expired and dirty oil for lubricants and engine, among many others.

Gross mis-management, and mass induction of 'Jiyalas' came under Bilour. Same with PIA, it has turned into a mini-political party now, multiple unions and blocks within PIA, one of the reasons ACM (r) Rao Qamar resigned as MD. You go to Isl or Lahore airport, you see multiple jiyala posters within the airport and many other signs.

The pillars of state are falling down only now, but the rot started long ago. The root causes cannot be absolved of the blame simply because the present lot in charge is so awful.
