BSF constable steals Italian imported Beretta submachine guns, held

Chandrapal was caught on Friday morning from his village Morenda of Sikandra.
AGRA: A Border Security Force (BSF) constable was arrested in a joint operation of Agra police and UP ATS for allegedly stealing two Italian importedBeretta submachine guns from the armoury of BSF post in West Bengal.

The apprehended cop, identified as constable driver Chandrapal, was caught on Friday morning from his village Morenda of Sikandra police jurisdiction in Agra district.

Speaking to TOI, inspector Alok Singh of ATS Agra said, "It was very well thought and planned crime. Before executing the theft, the accused cop took a month-long official leave and left his Khetabarkutti post on February 18, though he stayed back in Dinhata (Cooch Behar, West Bengal), the closest town to the BSF post."

"Later on February 19 intervening night at around 1:30 am, the constable discreetly entered the post and shut down the electricity by cutting the power cable with cutting plier. He then made into the armoury with a duplicate key and took the 9mm submachine guns with him. To avoid suspicion of theft, he locked the armoury door again. Later, he contacted local villagers for a rented car to reach the nearest railway station from where he boarded a train for Agra," he claimed.

Adding further, he said, "During interrogation, the constable revealed that he was searching customers to sell the stolen weapons."

An FIR in the submachine gun theft was already lodged in Dinhata police station under Section 461 (Dishonestly breaking open receptacle containing property) and 379 (Punishment for theft) of the IPC.

The accused cop is being send to Dinhat where police will take him into remand and both police and his commanding officers will further interrogate him.

"More IPC sections will be levied on him and after departmental enquiry, he might also be court-martialled," said a senior BSF officer.

Earlier, BSF frontier police inspector general Rakesh Agrawal had informed the UP ATS about the suspect constable, after which local police arrested him.

Where was the guard, standby power etc like it is so easy to cut the power and steal weapons yet there was no one inside facility/station.
