AMRITSAR: On the lines of daily adrenaline rushing beating the retreat ceremony held jointly by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers at Indo Pak joint check post at Attari (India)/Wagah(Pakistan), the BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have agreed to hold similar ceremonies at three different places on Indo-Bangladesh border.

BSF's Additional Director General (Operations) Himmat Singh told TOI on Monday that both sides had agreed to hold joint flag lowering ceremonies. According to BSF sources the decision was taken to hold Attari/Wagah like joint retreat ceremonies during 37th Border Co-ordination Conference held between BSF and BGB from March 18 to 23 wherein both sides led by Director General, BSF Subhash Joshi and Major General Aziz Ahmad, Director General BGD agreed to initiate several confidence building measures, such as joint retreat ceremony at Petrapole-Benapole, Changrabandha-Burimari, and Phulbari-Banglabandha Border Outposts in phased manner. Himmat Singh said that this was for the first time that the initiative of holding joint retreat ceremonies had been taken on Indo Bangladesh border.

However he said both sides had not made any progress as yet. Thousands of people everyday converge at Attari international border in Punjab to witness joint beating the retreat ceremony held at Attari and Wagah borders . Sources also informed that the beginning of retreat ceremonies on Indo-Bangladesh borders would help better coordination between two forces which would eventually help redressing local border issues besides the Attari/Wagah like ceremonies would also promote tourists flow on these borders.
