A captivating battle between two venomous snakes has ended in a gruesome fate for the loser in regional Victoria.

Video shared by Liz Williams shows the fearsome predators fighting it out in the backyard of a Nanneella home, near Rochester, on Friday night.

The brown snake is shown coiling itself around the tiger snake, with the pair rolling on the dirt ground for several seconds.

The brown then uses its fangs to clamp down on its victim’s head, before slowly starting to eat it.

Ms Williams described the fight as “amazing” in an interview with The Riverine Herald.

“My niece posted some video of the event and I learnt there was a real contrast in people’s reactions – from fascination to fear,” she told the newspaper.

A snake catcher who was called to the scene later said the brown snake “regurgitated” some of its meal, the Riverine reported.

Both brown and tiger snakes are considered venomous, with the ability to kill humans.

You will get a lot of brown snakes, red back spiders, funnel webs and other dangerous critters in the NT. Even more than you would get in Sydney, or Melbourne.

You wont need a guide you will find plenty of funnel web spiders and red backs just make sure you look under the toilet seat before sitting on it and make sure you dust your shoes out as well.
