no I'm not curious about that, none of my business, everyone should be free to follow (or not follow) any ideology, political, religious, or otherwise as far as I'm concerned.

I believe his Syrian wife played a major part in his conversion. Well she is Syrian and who can say no to a Syria lady
Good luck to him. Nothing wrong if he finds inner peace by accepting Islam and I hope he don't start looking down on others and behaving more righteous just because he choose a different path.

That thought has occured to be. I think people should be honest as to who they are. It's rather shallow and silly to hide your background. I nornally don't like asking because you should go by what a member has shown or has stated but curiosity got the better of me.
