Britain lifts travel advisory ban from J&K.
IANS | Nov 8, 2012, 06.04PM IST
NEW DELHI: Britain has lifted its travel advisory to Jammu and Kashmir as there has been an "improvement in the situation and the facts have changed", British Foreign Secretary William Hague said here on Thursday. It had been imposed on the state in 1995.
Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing a peaceful summer for the past two years, and this year too it recorded high tourist footfall, approximately around one million.
"We no longer advise against traveling to Jammu and Srinagar, nor the Jammu to Srinagar highway," the British high commission said in an update on its website on Tuesday.
Reacting to the change in the advisory, Hague said it was issued as "the facts have changed... there has been an improvement in the situation (in Jammu and Kashmir) and it was issued after understanding of the facts."
Britain is the third country after Germany and Japan to revoke advicing its citizens against traveling to Jammu and Kashmir.
