Britain Agrees Billion-Pound Deal for 14 Chinooks
Britain has announced a 1 billion-pound deal ($1.7 billion) for the delivery of 14 Chinook helicopters from Boeing.
Defense Secretary Liam Fox announced the contract Aug. 22 during a visit to the Royal Air Force Chinook base at Odiham, England.
The deal for 12 new aircraft and two replacements for machines written off in Afghanistan was finally cleared for signing after the Conservative-led government announced last month it was raising equipment spending after 2015. The package also includes the first five years of support service.
First deliveries are scheduled in 2013, with the final in-service operational vehicle due in 2017.
