After Sheikh Mujeeb's assasination Major.Zia became a general in Bangladesh overnight. So whats the news here???

1.It is better to keep shut if you don't know your facts. Zia was a Major and Company Commander in 1 E Bengal at LHR during the '65 War when this battalion had beaten the daylight out of the invading Indians. At cease-fire their front was strewn with mauled tanks of IA. They took one back to their Regimental Center, Chittagong where it is still on display.

2. In '71 he was the 2IC of his battalion awaiting promotion. By 16 Dec he was a Lieut Col and was soon promoted to a full Col. To the next rank and eventually to Maj Gen were during Muib's reign. He was promoted to a Lieut Gen during the time he was a Dy Chief Martial Law Administrator under a civilan Prez.

Incidentally, while he called himself Captain Liddell-Hart, and so did others, that was strictly against protocol. Only officers of the rank of major and above are entitled to use their former rank in retired life.
