BP: China consumed 26% more energy than US in 2013
BP has just released its "Statistical Review of World Energy 2014."

China consumed 2,852 MTOE (ie. million tonnes of oil equivalent) in 2013. The United States consumed 2,266 MTOE. This means China consumed 26% more energy than the U.S. in 2013.

And it's only the beginning. China is still a developing country.

Imagine how much energy we will consume when we become a developed country in the next few decades!

It is good that China's oil industry is all national, very well structured and continously subject to reforms. Chinese NOCs are profit-driven and they have a huge amount of autonomy (with the reforms done in the early 2010) although they are still part and parcel of China's foreign diplomacy.

That's very good and must be maintained.

Also, Chinese energy companies are very well structured, each having its own expertise, preventing a waste of resources. CNOOC is for off-shore, CNPC is more for on-shore (both upstream and downstream), Sino-pec is more refinery and chemicals...
