Box Office Update: ‘Baaji’ Opens to Solid Numbers while ‘Chhalawa’ and ‘Wrong No. 2’ Maintain a Good Hold
by Yousuf Mehmood June 30, 2019, 7:41 PM

“Baaji” has opened to solid numbers at the box office, something that was expected due to its novelty as a comeback flick for Meera. It minted 90 lacs on opening day and 95 lacs on its second day for a total of 1.85 crore. The film is expected to grow on Sunday due to the overall positive word of mouth.

Holdover Films:

Meanwhile, “Chhalawa” and “Wrong No. 2: maintained their hold on the box office, bolstering their totals little by little throughout the week.
“Wrong No. 2”, which has already earned 16.94 crores over two weeks, wanted a further 2.02 crores in its third week, for a total of 18.96 crores.
It may yet end its run with a respectable total of 20 crores.
“Chhalawa”, though coming up short against its main competitor, continued to earn solid numbers in its third week, coming up with 1.2 crore. Its total now stands at 16 crores and it may end its run at around 17 crores.

Last Friday Release:

None of this business spilled over to “Kataksha” however, which registered a surprising 1.07 crore on its opening weekend, but completely collapsed after, bringing in only 71 lacs over the weekday period. Its total stands at 1.78 crore. However, since it has now been removed from almost all cinemas across the country, it is most probably not even going to touch the 2 crore mark through it’s theatrical earnings.

We need to give our hard earned rupees to these movies so instead of allowing IAF to buy rafales we can allow PAF to complete AZM or buy EF Tranche 3 or whatever PAF pleases.

Baaji totally flopped. That disgusting and vulgar item number s only $54,000. Even student projects at universities make more money than this.

On non eid days that is considered an OK number as eid day openings are around the figure of 1.3 crore
For comparison the movie sherdil earned 1.1 crore on its opening and closed at about 12 crore
The expectations from baji are about 8-10 crore which about average for non eid releases

This aint the US bub we dont have many screens in Pakistan 54000 dollars on an opening day is big here
As for films like this not earning well both eid releases are nearing the 20 crore mark and they werent that different from it in the setting and attire department

You said something about jpna 1 few years back well its eid sequel earned close to 60 crore :-)

LOL, excuses won't do much. Baaji is not performing upto mark. It made just 90 lac in today's devalued PKR, control for inflation, and Baji's performance is significantly subpar than even Sherdill (which was a badly made movie too but okay...)

Yes, I criticized JPNA after it had already made 60 crore. Even then I told you that this 'short cut to make quick bucks' won't be a successful method for the expansion of Pakistani industry. JPNA was one of the first masala movie....I told you back then that masala type bollywood copies will make some good money in the short term, but long term---they'll fade away and nothing will happen for our industry.

And that's exactly what happened. Its almost f*cking 2020 (!) and Pakistan film industry is still meager, irrelevant, and restricted to the same old limits. No progress made towards making Pak film industry an household product in Pakistan (and hopefully then abroad). For example, when WAAR came out---it was the talk of the town. It made decent money but that's irrelevant. What's relevant is that people were talking about it. Families went to watch the movie. I saw so many dumb "inspiring" posts on social media posted by people after they had just watched WAAR. That could have been the moment Pakistan was looking for. Making decent, relevant, and good movies. Improve, improve, and improve further----Slowly, movies in Pakistan would start to become a worthy product for the middle classes and beyond.

But no, what happened? Oh yeah, useless masala type movies that nobody gives a sh*t about---has no impact on the course of our film industry. Bollywood chaap masaala, quick money for producers, and onto the next one.

Result: Pakistani movies still make $54k on opening nights in a market of more than 220 million people with majority population being under 30.

What an absolute disaster

It'll be 2025, and Pakistani masala movies will STILL be making $55k for opening (adjusted for inflation)---and you'd still be here complaining about ayen bayen shayen not realizing that Pakistani film industry isn't differentiating itself from the bigger player (Bollywood) to create an organic demand in the market (Like Pakistani drama industry did when Star Plus was dominating. Look what happened ;) ).

Its basic brand marketing and business development. But what would Pakistanis know about it? Lol...:)

LOL, excuses won't do much.

Currently active Pakistani actors shouldn't be taken in any film for a rebirth of Pakistan film industry they should introduce new faces those who haven't previously worked in any film drama or add etc Chand aik namonay aur namonian hain inko hi Saray roll da detay Hain in Sab ko ab retirement la leni chahiye aur ye Bollywood ko copy krnay ki koshish bhi krtay hain agar Bollywood ki copy banani ha to log wahi original film dekh lain ga copy kyon dekhni hai
I've watched few Pakistani Punjabi films from 60s or 70s those films are much better compared to later ones un ka bad saray third class actor aa gaye like Nadeem sultan rahi
