Its so confusing cause on twitter they're saying it was an attack on the Chehlum procession but:
Plot to attack Chehlum procession foiled
Officials of the Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) on Saturday claimed to have foiled a terror plot to attack the main Chehlum procession, and arrested a Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan commander, who was involved in a number of terrorist cases.
The banned militant outfit had planned to target the Chehlum procession of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), which is being held in the city today.
Addressing a press conference, opened by the additional inspector general of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Sindh, Ghulam Shabbir Sheikh, SSP Mohammad Aslam Khan of the AEC said he had received a tip-off about the presence of a wanted TTP terrorist in the Moachko area.
The SSP directed DSP Ali Raza of the AEC to conduct a raid. When law enforcement agencies raided the hideout in Ittehad Town, terrorists opened fire at them. The police retaliated, and, after an encounter, arrested Mohammad Daud, alias Waleed, and shifted him to the interrogation unit.
The police also recovered 50 kilograms of explosives, four suicide jackets, one light machinegun, a rocket launcher, two rockets, 10 hand grenades, two Kalashnikovs, two TT pistols, 1,000 bullets, a 20-foot detonating cord, and five detonators.
The suspect revealed that he was trained in Waziristan to handle arms, including rocket launchers, and make suicide jackets.
Daud was said to be involved in an attack on security forces in Waziristan, and had been sent to Karachi to organise a group to perform terrorist attacks on government buildings and shrines.
He disclosed that his group was responsible for the suicide attack on Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine in 2010. He said the plan to target the shrine had been made in Waziristan and that he had been given Rs20,000 by a TTP commander there to complete the job.
Daud said he was instructed to kill people visiting the shrine as they were indulging in “un-Islamic practices”. He came to Karachi with two suicide bombers, Baadshah Khan and Abdullah.
The arrested militant told the police that he had hired a taxi from Sohrab Goth to take them to the shrine, where he and the two suicide bombers met Mohammad Ali and Ateeq, who were accomplices in the plot.
After assessing the security arrangements at the shrine, Daud told one of the bombers to blow himself up at a security post, and the other had to blow himself up a few yards away from the post. The three arrived at the shrine the following day. After leaving them there, Daud returned to his hideout and watched television to see if the suicide attempt had been successful. As soon as he got confirmation that the attack had taken place, he made arrangements to return to Waziristan.
The suspect, along with companions Sheikh Khalid, Mansoor and Mohammad Ali, soon returned to Karachi and began collecting security information on a number of important buildings in the city. These included the American and British consulates, CID offices, and the Special Investigation Unit.
After gathering the necessary information, the three left for Quetta to meet the TTP’s local chief. They requested the chief to provide them with bombers and arms and ammunitions to carry out the attacks they had planned.
The TTP Quetta chief introduced Daud to three people of foreign origin, one of whom was a woman. All were experienced in making suicide jackets and ready to assist him in carrying out attacks.
The foreigners were Abu Saleh (from Chechnya), Abu Daud (from Azerbaijan) and Abu Sauleha (also Chechen and wife of Abu Saleh).
Daud told the interrogators that he called a companion, Shoaib, to help transport arms and ammunition from Quetta to Karachi. Guns were packed in blankets and hand grenades and bullets were stuffed in pomegranate boxes, after which they were transported to Karachi by bus.
On reaching Karachi, the terrorists met in a hideout in North Nazimabad, where they decided to attack Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine, failing which they would then target the Special Investigation Unit in Jamshed Town.
They hired a hi-roof van from the Banaras area and loaded it with suicide jackets, KKs and hand grenades, and then headed towards Sea View, with Daud following on a motorcycle. The foreigners were to prepare for the bombing near the Sea View area, but before Daud could reach the shrine and give them the attack order, the hi-roof was intercepted by Darakhshan police. All the foreigners were killed in the encounter, included Aseem, who was Daud’s companion.
Daud also revealed to police officials that he had planned an attack on an Imambargah in Kharadar on the birthday of Hazrat Ali (AS) last year.
The arrested commander had told a suicide bomber, Salman, to stand outside the Imambargah and blow himself up as worshipers exited the building.
However, Salman, in last-minute realisation, refused to go ahead with attack. He fled the scene and buried his suicide jacket in the Shershah graveyard.
