The bomb exploded outside a Trinamool Congress office, which is used as the office of South Dumdum Municipality Chairperson Panchu Roy.
At least one person has been killed, and 10 persons injured — including two children — when a medium-intensity bomb exploded in Nagerbazar, northeast Kolkata on Tuesday.+
The deceased is a eight-year-old boy, Bibhas Ghosh. Many senior Ministers of the State cabinet visited the spot.
The locality is called Kazipara, a police official said. The officials added that it is “seemingly a bomb and not a gas cylinder,” as was thought initially.
Two of the persons injured in the blast are in critical condition, and many have been hit by splinters.
The bomb exploded outside a Trinamool Congress office, which is used as the office of South Dumdum Municipality Chairperson Panchu Roy, a writer.
Mr. Roy attends office in the ground floor of the building on every Tuesday. Trinamool supporters claimed that Mr. Roy “was targeted,” but the police have refused to comment on this.

The Commissioner of Police at Barrackpore Police Commissionerate Rajesh Kumar Singh said that it is not a gas cylinder blast but a “bomb that has exploded.”
“What kind of blast is it and the materials used are being investigated. The bomb squad of CID has arrived. Many [people] are injured,” Mr. Singh said.
The panes in the three-storey building have all shattered due to the intensity of the blast and the police quickly cordoned off the area.
The bomb was kept under the shutter of a shop. Following the blast, the shutter was crushed.
There is palpable tension in the area following the blast. The injured have been shifted to nearby R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.

During the fakir-sannyasi resistance a serious encounter was held between the British army and the Fakir- Sannyasis at Shyamganj of Sayar union under Taraganj upazila in which the commander of the British army was killed; in this encounter the British army was also defeated. Krishak Praja Bidraha (peasant tenant rebellion) of 1783, popularly known as 'Rangpur Vidraha', had a major base at Badarganj.
