The thing is, crucifixion was not reserved just for Jesus. The Romans crucified tens of thousands (probably more) of people. It was a common (if very cruel) form of capital punishment. Just like hanging.

The more mature in the Christian faith a follower is, the less he or she gets worked up over worldly insults. You shrug it off as "people will do what they will" and you look to yourself instead.
