Boeing picks BAE Systems for warfare system
NASHUA— BAE Systems has been selected by Boeing to develop and manufacture a new, all-digital electronic warfare system for the U.S. Air Force’s fleet of F-15 fighter aircraft.
The contract with BAE is part of a multi-billion-dollar program to develop new systems for advanced aircraft protection.
The new system will replace the current F-15 Tactical Electronic Warfare Suite, which has been in use since the 1980s.
Updating the electronic warfare system is critical to the F-15, which is scheduled to be in service through 2040, according to a BAE spokesman.
BAE technology will be used to improve aircraft protection with advanced electronic countermeasures, including the capability to detect and defeat threats in combat situations.
BAE Systems, the state’s largest manufacturing employer, has more than 60 years of experience in building the nation’s most advanced electronic warfare technologies.
Development and follow-on work for the program will be performed at multiple BAE Systems sites in New Hampshire, New Jersey and Texas.
