Panic gripped the cantonment city of Sargodha, which hosts Pakistan''s largest air base, today after the fuel tank of a fighter jet burst at an airport.The powerful blast was heard across Sargodha, located 70 km from Lahore, shortly before 8 pm. It created panic among local residents, who rushed home. All markets and shops too closed down.Officials later said the fuel tank of a fighter jet had burst at the Pakistan Air Force base in Sargodha. It could not immediately be ascertained whether the incident occurred while the jet was taking off or on the ground. "It is not a bomb blast. The fuel tank of a fighter jet burst and there were no casualties or damage to property," a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity. Earlier, TV news channels reported that the blast was heard in Tariqabad area within the cantonment in Sargodha in Punjab province. Rescue teams and ambulances rushed to Tariqabad, the channels reported.
